It wasn't "mysteriously" edited out. After I wrote it, I realized it wasn't a nice thing to say, so I deleted it..And I checked out your profile and realized you were indeed qualified to to answer.

I do understand where you are getting the "8 hours in a 24 hour period" and will ask around using that as a conversation starter.

Now that I read my answer after a good night sleep, I am the one that looks like a d1ck. :0 Just out of curiosity...you look like you have enough experience that worrying over a few extra hours wouldn't matter that much. Good luck in whatever it is you're looking for.
 
You're right, and I am not going to lose sleep over this, but this has been bugging me for quite awhile, since as you indicated you can only log 8 hours between rest breaks, yet you fly as a required crewmember of a 3-man crew..ah!

For part 121....without looking at it, so definitely could be wrong, but normally the pic needs a type rating which all of the crew has. However normally the Captain or PIC needs to have passed a PC every 12 months plus loft or a PC every 6th month, have done an FAA observation ride and a company line check every 12 months. I believe short of this the IRO can not really be pic
 
So to go over 16 hours do you need a 5 guy crew?

I don't know of any supplemental carriers that approach that. The flag carriers (AA, United, Continental, etc) have different regulations. 121.485 allows them to have rest periods aboard the aircraft and to fly twelve hours on flight deck duty. I guess if a plane could do it, two full crews could operate a 24 hour flight. Not really up on flag stuff since it doesn't apply to me and I don't care to ever see it. I also know nothing about helicopter external load operations, crop-dusting, or the internal workings of a woman's mind. :)
