Anyone using Logbook Pro's APDL software or the PDA companion software? Why is the PDA companion software half the price of the APDL and what does the APDL do that the companion software does not.

I asked Logbook Pro but I didn't really get a good answer.

I think th PDA companion just lets you enter time that you can upload to your PC version of Logbook Pro. APDL on the other hand understands the rest rules, flight scheduling, trip rigs, pay issues etc. of your average airline pilot.

APDL has saved me from the tedium of doing a ton of math, either on each overnight or sometimes while actually on the phone with the company. It will tell you if you've got a problem (at least based on the FARs) right away.

Disclaimer - I've only used APDL, but that's my understanding of the differences, hope it helps.

It has paid for itself several times over for me. I have been audited several times on my flight pay. Each time I just fax a nice neat looking flight time/expense/pay report created by APDL to crewpay. On 3 occasions they rescinded the pay audit.

Also helps track rest requirements and with taxes. Keeps track of perdiem vs. conus rates and allows a printout of what you can claim on your taxes.

It keeps track of door codes, airport notes and ops frequencies.

But one of the best features is that you download you schedule onto it, so you have pairing info on you all the time.

I've used both for years and is worth every penny. Especially the Schedule Importer. One page tells you your credit, block, RON etc etc....

OK type slowing because I am dumb and too lazy to read the instructions. I have logbook pro, and the pda companion but NOT apdl. I can't import my schedule into logbook pro companion which is pretty much what I want to use it for. Is it true that I can import my schedule from flica or crewtrac into apdl? Thanks for the info.

Hey StaySeated,

You are probably only sitting reserve! Why do you need to input your sked to a PDA? It's not like you will know where you are going?

On a more serious note, how is F9 treating you? :) Are you on the 'Bus or the 'Bus?

Yes, APDL will import your schedule from Flica or several formats. Syncs seamlessly with Logbook pro. It will tell you what to expect from your paycheck for the month. Accounts for Rigs (what are those?) and premium flying. It does more than I can list.

Totally worth it

What are you doing awake at this hour?! F9 is going well. I was very lucky to get hired at the beginning of the recent wave and spent a whole two and a half weeks on reserve. Sweet. Good people and above average schedule adds to the love fest. Hows everything over at Big B? Lets start a rumor, UPS and frontier are going to merge. UPS decided that the boxes needed inflight entertainment.

One of the nice things about being on rsv overnight, is that most of the time, I get to sleep right through my availability period. When it really sux is when you get called and you got to sleep 1 hr before. Luckily, on the panel, I don't work much - about 60 + hrs in 8 months. Glad to hear that things are going well. I'm glad to see the good guys from SYX finally move on to better things. Also, you're lucky to be off rsv. I'm looking at atleast 4 yrs more when I finish FO training on the -8.

And, let me tell ya, I think you're on to something with your rumor. Run with it...

Take care, M!

anybody use it on a treo?
Yes! and it works very well. I'll add that one particular Captain I've flown with says that by using APDL he filed pay discrepancy reports when he compared what he was paid versus what APDL said he should be paid and received well over $2000 in back pay last year alone. I also think he said that he's received over $1500 this year alone...and counting.

The only thing about APDL that is cumbersome is that you must custom taylor the rigs/guarantees and payroll categories to your airline's contract. If you can discern the various nick nacks like CDOs, standups, reserve, repo flights, premium pay, et al. from within the contract it will pay for itself many times over. My advice is to find someone within your airline who has the program and ask them to copy their settings.

Last, but not least, I've used Logbook Pro PC and PDA companion for years and I think the company's customer service is excellent...plus ALL updates for the last 5 years have been FREE. It's worth it.
