Just saw a blurb about a woman pilot screaming on her cell to be saved after she crashed her 172 near L.A. The only clue she could give 911 about her location was that 'Little House on the Prairie' was filmed there. How in hek would anyone know that, unless she was showboating for her boyfriend pax. I'm sure he was impressed with her composure. And flying skill.

Nice way to diss a friend.

I'd rather have her, still alive, being able to call for help, than to be dead and all the cell phones in the world won't bring her back.

Speaking for a SAR standpoint, if she's talking on the cell phone, we can find her within minutes, versus hours or days. If you'd spent some time over in the Valley, you'd know where these local points of reference are.

They are still alive, it was a good landing.

Well, I grew up in the Valley, yet have no clue what "Little House on the Prairie" even is - let alone where it is filmed. Of course, if I did have to put a plane down somewhere in the area, I'd imagine that I'd be able to tell 911 pretty much exactly where I am...

 You mean if she was dead, but easy to find, it would be OK?

what about an ELT? Don't you CAP folks have direction finding equipment where you are? I'd think DF equipment looking for an ELT would be a pretty darn good way to find someone like this.

checkessential and bigD,

I lived in Calabasas for seven years...no I didn't grow up there, but yet I still know where "Little House" was filmed. I think most people that live in that area refer to it by same.

But my point is that I think it is mean to criticize this pilot for her "composure". Checkessential, you seem to be a not very nice person. Your sarcasm is quite rude. In fact, you sound almost hateful of this pilot. Do you know her personally or something? What did you accomplish by demeaning her in a public forum such as this?

English - I did some research on the net and know all about "Little House" now. :p It was filmed in the Calabasas area? I actually spent the first 6 years of my life in Venice, but the 12 years after that were spent in Woodland Hills.

No, not in Calabasas. What I meant to communicate was that most people that lived in the Conejo Valley/Simi Valley when I lived there knew where the filming was done.
