V2, you are missing quite a bit of the big picture here.
If the mods were unhappy about our off topic discussions, they'd lock the threads. However, they know where their bread is buttered. The hit counts generated by a lot of these topics help them charge more money to advertisers on this board.
I don't come here to read about interviews; I come here to see what's happening in the industry. I just happened to PM someone seeking information on a military job that I'm very familiar with. Had I not come here to read all of the other stuff, I would never have come here and responded to his request. Now this person will gain quite a bit of insight into the job he's wondering about.
