I took a GV in there a year or so ago. One way in, one way out but it worked out for us. I think our alt was Bolongnia. We stayed at a Westin in town and the location was great. Near the river and walking distance to everywhere in Florence. Buy the Rick Steves guide to Florence before you go. Have your hotel book the Academia (Where Michaelangelo's David is) and the Uffizi Museum tours ahead of time. (Talks about this in Rick's book.)
We used Air Routing. Airport services were no problem. Only issues are runway length if the winds are wrong and reserving a parking spot. Enjoy, Florence was great. We even took the train to Pisa for a day to see the tower and such. Train station quick walk from the Westin.
If you do stay at the Westin don't eat breakfast there. I think the breakfast buffet was 45 Euro, and a short walk from the hotel to a local coffee shop will get you better food and more interesting surroundings for 4 Euro.
