Lie on medical = no license

After reading a post on this board a few days ago about someone with a medical issue I have realized a very important mistake that I have made. On my medical application there is a box that asks have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor. I checked no. In 2000 I was having some problems with my girlfriend and I pled guily to Falsely reporting an incident and Criminal contempt. Both are misdemeanors.

I started flying about 10 years ago but only about a year ago I have started take it seriously and obtained my cfi, cfii and mei. Flying has been the one thing that has helped me to keep my mind right. I know a lot of people don't have the chance to wake up every day and do what they truly love, and I'm someone that has that chance.

This has concerned me a lot so I decided to call AOPA for some legal advice. The guy that I spoke to advised me to do one of two things.

1. Reapply for my medical. When I reapply, in the box that asks about the convictions list what I have failed to disclose.
2. Send a letter to the FAA medical division and tell them what I didn't disclose.

I elected to take number 2.

I truly am in love with what I do and I can't think of doing anything else.

What I have done 'will' open a can of worms. I just hope I did the right thing

Regardless, I've seen similiar questions to yours on his site and more often than not he'll offer to correspond in private to protect your privacy.

He's truly a gentleman and a scholar and just may provide you with a little more advice.

Well, I hope you have better luck with the FAA than I have had so far. I have listed everything on all my medicals from the very beginning, yet I am still being put thru absolute hell in order to maintain my privileges. In almost ten years, no one at the FAA ever gave my file a second look and I've been flying along fat, dumb, and happy. But one jerk-off, weirdo AME raises a fuss about something that was out of my control and viola ... I am now living the kind of horror story I read about so often on the internet. AND I FOLLOWED THE RULES!!!

Do Both!!

Do both!! The FAA, upon receiving your disclosure letter WILL revoke your medical certificate, although you will most likely be eligible for a new medical imediately.

To prevent having a revocation on your record, apply for a new medical, state the misdemeanor on the new application, and let the FAA know what you're doing. You will likely get away with it because you told the FAA before they found out!

I'm a little confused. The letter with a copy of the disposition was already sent to the feds. If I was to re-apply the FAA can revoke any medical that I hold. I'm not sure how that will help ?
