I heard the other day that JetBlue has started using LIDO. If so, what do you guys think about it?

The biggest problem with LIDO is that it's different from what everybody is used to. Most of us (me included) are resistant to change. It does some things better than Jepp and other things are worse. For example, the approach plates aren't bad. I got used to them pretty quickly. On the other hand, the SIDs and STARs are horrible. It's a major pain in the ass trying to figure out any altitude restrictions. If I had to choose I'd probably have stuck with the Jepps, but I can't decide if that's because I really like the Jepps better or it's because I'm just used to the Jepps.

It was exlpained that the reason we switched was to facilitate moving towards a totally electronic flightbag. The cost of the Jepp version of the EFB was prohibitive, but the LIDO version is doable.

They are quite a bit different to yours however. Our charts fit in a standard jep binder and we have don't have te 4 approaches on 1 page. I like them but as caveman said the SID's and STARS leave something to be desired.

The charts are pretty nice but on the STARS there is no uniformity with the crossing restrictions.. You really have to look closely.

There needs to be a text description for stars like there is for the sids

airport diagrams are nice and big easy to read

so European...

We had a discussion on this a while back...

Pretty much what everyone says..

No uniformity on depictions of constraints on the STARS.
You have to look at two sometimes three separate pages for the SIDs.

Dark taxiway designators printed on dark taxiway diagrams..

Supposively LIDO is responsive to our criticisms.

But come on ...
Aerodromes?

:uzi:

I don't like change, but I'm getting used to them. I wish they were on the thinner paper so my binder wasn't so bulky. I also think approach frequencies should be on the approach plate, but that's just me.

I personally don't like the LIDO format. The Jepp "Briefing Strip" has the LIDO IAC format beat to hell. Don't really care for the RFC's either.

Are you B6 guys carrying the LIDO's in your bag or are they stored in the jet? We are still carrying our Jepps and the LIDO's stay on the plane. Hopefully, we will be able to dump the Jepps soon. I don't think we will see the EFB completely installed in the 'Bus fleet for another 2-3 years.

The company just uploaded the entire LIDO chart system on our laptops. The program is going to take some getting used to, but this is definitely a precurser to the EFB...

Kudos to JB and FDX for venturing out and helping to break the monopoly of Jepp. Does anyone remember at Riddle how much the DISCOUNT was for Jepps? The Southeast region was about $120 for a semester. Figure that each pilot must cost the company thousands each year and Jepp holds people hostage. It's great that their product is good and all, but competition is better. Besides Boeing doesn't need the money.

Now the Euros can hold us hostage instead.

Neither does Lufthansa.

Prediction...

FDX 727's will be flown to the desert (or wherever they end up) using paper LIDO plates; an EFB will never happen for us. As far as the Gucci jets, who knows.

Bottom line, IMHO it's an inferior product.

You got that right. The enroute charts are just as bad as the SID's and STAR's. Got assigned a hold at MIGET just west of Keating VOR. Hold as published. LIDO doesn't publish the hold on their wonderful charts, so now we sound like rookies verifying the holding radial.

LIDO sucks,
The Pig.

I did not like them at first. Now, I am actaully getting use to them. I hate to say it but I am actaully starting to like them. Yes, I agree that the SIDS and STARS are hard to get use to but the airport pages and appch pages are great!!

Flew from CDG-DEL the other month and one ariway was not even there, and on another some points were missing.

Color charts are great, but not if all the information needed is not there.

I did the same trip in early July. We found our assigned route on Jepps without any problem. As for LIDO...after more than an hour at cruise, I finally found it in the RFC change bulletin. It's ONLY 400+ page; very quick and efficient to skim through before you launch. Can you say...D E L A Y!

It soothes the eyes, but they have quite a few mistakes. You have to dig for crossing restrictions and you have to read the descriptions for the SIDS to find altitudes after take off.
Although I like the looks of them better, I prefer the Jeppesen charts. They are more user friendly and much clearer

STAR redrawings...

Apparently LIDO is responding to JB complaints and will be redrawing the STARS..

Also they are lightening the shading of the taxiway depictions so that the taxiway designations are easier to see.

They have a long way to being as polished as the JEPPS but apparently LIDO was less costly and more EFB friendly for our needs.
