Anyone have any good hotel intel for Liberia Costa Rica?? Good. clean, aound the $200 to $250 range.
BTW, not interested in any all inclusive deals.

Thanks

Liberia, CR

Greetings,

Liberia is great. I was there last year about this time. We didn't spend the night but I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a hotel within your price range. There are lots of good restaurants, cheap beer and interesting things to see. Good luck!

TC - Any tidbits of wisdom to add?

We did the 4 Seasons. Another one was recommended but it was closed when we were there. Try the NBAA site, maybe. I know the Ocotal Beach Resort sucks. They said the hotels at Playa Pacifica were ok.

If you drive to the beach, the road about 3 miles west of the airport is bombed out. I mean, it looks like it got worked over by a bunch of B-52's. Careful.

Good luck. TC

Thanks TC. 4 seasons is out for price and it is where the principle will be staying. It just looks like pretty slim pickings for a decent place. Guess I'll ask the travel dept.

When you travel to some places in the world 'price range' does not work. You need to have your management understand that. Just explain that you have to stay in a secure hotel which cost extra or they may end up with a dead or very sick crew.

Trust me, I've been there, not Liberia Costa Rica, but many places like it.

(Been to Costa Rica, but not Liberia.)

I forgot to mention the roads...thanks TC. Be VERY careful if you're driving (or walking for that matter). Traffic was erratic and the locals WILL NOT slow for you to cross the street! The roads towards Playa Sámara or Tamarindo (gringo friendly) are barely suitable for 4X4's. If you're driving a KIA expect to get swallowed by a crater. All that aside, Liberia is a great place to hang out/eat and start day-trips from. Parque Nacional Rincón De La Vieja is supposed to be amazing and you can hire a driver to take you there...wait...and drive you back to your hotel for a reasonable fee. Good luck with your hotel search. I also recommend tripadvisor.com. I use that often with great success.

Take care,
TF

TF--Yeah, Tamarindo was the town at the end of the 'bombing run' that I was thinking about. We had a Land Cruiser and were creeping along at <5 mph and these cars and trucks were flying past us!

Tamarindo is great if you're a kid and don't mind a little "roughing it".

Great mountain biking tours/jungle canopy tours, etc. Have fun. TC

No roughing it for me TC. I had enough of that in the Army. I did get some intel on a EL OCOTAL PLAYA DEL COCO, it's supposed to be decent anyway. Thanks for the info guys.
