Can anyone tell me what is going on at LGA ?
My wife and Baby tried to NR yesterday from LGA back to CLT now I know that nonreving sucks generaly speaking but this is off the wall. Last night they were sitting in the plane on the ground on the taxi way with no clearence to depart for 4 hours when the capt say's that they are going back to the gate and that the flight has been canceled due to weather, after she told me this I checked the weather. SKY CLR VIS 10SM ect.. It turns out that all or at least most of the flights out of LGA were cancelled last night and I mean all airlines. So this morning I checked again and sure enough flights are starting to cancel. Now I understand that there is a major problem with flow control at LGA and weather plays a huge factor but this is utter madness I talked to a few pilots outside the airport last night and they said that the controllers arent showing up to work they feel that they don't get paid enough and that there is not enough man power to handle the workload and that it is getting worse every day. If this is the fact then this is a very scary situation. Can anyone shed some light on this ?

The WX yesterday morning and the day before was horrible in the NY area. Every flight I saw out of JFK had a delay on it yesterday. It trickles down, improssible for the NY area airports to recover from a bad start to the day. Unfornately it'll take a few days for the system here to recover and the next storm will roll in.

Good luck to your family, just have to be patient, that's what I do when I commute here to work.

This was out last night. I have never seenanything like it before.ATCSCC ADVZY 028 07/20/07 GROUND STOPDESTINATION AIRPORT: ALL AIRPORTS NORTH OF THE VIRGINIA/NORTHCAROLINA BORDERFACILITIES INCLUDED: ZTL/ZJX/ZMAEXPECT UPDATE: 0300ZREASON: EN ROUTE THUNDERSTORMSREMARKS: AT THIS TIME THIS ALSO INCLUDES THE OFFSHORE ROUTES.200145-20035907/07/20 01:44

It's not just a matter of getting off the ground...you also have to be able to get where you're going.

There is so much traffic travelling up and down the east coast that weather that requires diversion will wreak havoc on the entire system.

Hey Samballs,
I am trying to bring up a good topic and you make a remark like that. Well I guess I could expect that from an uneducated tool like yourself.

Sinking to his level does nothing but delight a flamer. Ignoring his post would have been your best move.

Like others have said, the flights can't leave an airport headed over certain fixes, through certain center airspace when there are thunderstorms over those routes. They try to re-route, but due to congestion and ever changing weather conditions, are frequently unsuccessful. Such is the way the center severe weather avoidance plan works, rather than launching your wife's flight towards weather it'd have to divert around, it has to sit until it has a clear shot around the weather. Otherwise there'd be a bunch of planes headed towards weather needing to deviate into airspace that's already full of airplanes. It's not the terminal weather reports you need to look at, it's the route. Welcome to the east coast.
