So a class 1 medical they check for breathing and if you can actually see that an eye chart is indeed on the wall.

What's a class 2 and a 3 like? If you are planning on getting a commercial should you go broke paying your doc the funds every 6 months to keep that class 3 medical active?
 
Class 2 and 3: you have to be able to find the way out of the Dr's office. Oh yeah, you also have to take the rectal exam.. just make sure the Dr doesn't use one of those gloves that goes up to his shoulder.

Actually there's not much difference.. why would you need to keep a class 1 current to that level if you're not using it though? Let it drop down to a 2, then a 3. Then when you get your commercial get another class 2.
 
FAA medicals

There are a lot of old wives' tales floating about regarding FAA medical exams. FAA exams are very cursory. When it comes right down to it, your own doctor probably gives you a tougher, more thorough exam. If you are in relatively good health, you will not have problems passing an FAA medical.

The paperwork makes an FAA medical exam dicey. While some people might disagree with this, the paperwork has to be answered honestly. At that point, the doctor may ask you questions about the "yesses" you indicated, and may want further information. Your medical could be held up until you provide the information, and may have to be issued by Oklahoma City.

Good advice would be to take a physical from your own doctor and address any health problems, past and present, before taking an FAA physical. Your doctor is on your side and will work with you. Do not confess any health problems or concerns to an AME. While some AMEs are "good," i.e., fair, they all are still the FAA's industrial physicians and have its interests at heart, not yours.

Good luck with your medical. Once more, if you are in good health, the exam will be a snap.

I agree with Bobby here...but there is another option...

If you have some condition that you think is "marginal", you can go to an AME for a "Aviation Consult" physical. Most AMEs offer this service.

Basically, its the FAA medical without the paperwork.
