Lets talk Cougars

I am about to start flying at wright flyers and polish off my private-CFI.

My question is: how is the Grumman Cougar as a twin?

The Grumman Cougar(i.e.-the F-9, TF-9 & AF-9) is and always was a single-engine turbojet. You must be referring to the Grumman American Cougar with the (2) 150HP Lycomings.

I suppose it's much better as a twin than as a single.

I worked as an A&P for a flight school back in the late 80’s. The school operated two of them for training and they were just awesome. We really ran the mess out of those things and had very few problems. The Cougar is a simple airplane built tough! The only problem that I think you will run into is the availability of parts. Flight controls seem to be the most difficult to locate but the FAA is allowing fabrication in most cases. I think AOPA put out an article on the Cougar and considered it very favorable in regards to training. Check the AOPA site for archives.

Great airplane! I used to instruct at Wright Flyers from 1989-1995 and was there when we decided to trade out the crappy seneca for a couple of Cougars, and like I said its a great airplane. Good luck with your training. WF'ers is a great school.

Yeah, probably. It's been a long time.

I enjoyed flying the Grumman Traveler and Tiger so I demoed one when they first came out and almost bought it. My lifelong aversion to buying the "A" version of anything prevented it. I think the marketplace and hindsight supported that decision in this case.
