Gee, last time I looked 64% of respondents thought it should be higher than 60. But that shouldn't matter to the ardent discriminationists.

Discrimination is really not the issue here...few people actually think 61 year old pilots are inherently unsafe. Most of the people who have an opinion on this base their opinion on their own special interests...

Young Pilots: Don't want career progression to stop for 5 years.

Old Pilots: Want to keep working due to loss of pension or cuz they enjoy it.

Airlines: Want to get rid of top-scale pilots.

FAA: Doesn't want to piss off anyone by making waves.

Although, most people instinctively know that 91 year old pilots ARE inherently unsafe; it's just where do you draw the line? Enough AME's are notorious for allowing anyone with a checkbook to continue to fly, so more quantitative standards are needed. And until the medical community can agree on an appropriate set of tests, an arbitrary age limit is what we have to live with.

Plenty of excellent arguments on both sides of this issue.

How may polls is it going to take before everybody realizes that nobody cares what the pilots think?
