Brazil doesn't extradite murder suspects, war criminals etc. Why should these pilots ever show face in Brazil again??????????? Persona non grata, who cares. If I read the article correctly, they were cleared to 37K. Right? That would be the issue there. Although I wonder if TCAS is used down there.

Why didn't the 737 get an RA? Did they have it? Is an XPDR rqrd?

I am currently shopping for a jet for my flight dept. Someone recently suggested to me that I should take a look at the Embraer 300 and I flat-out said NO WAY! I will not allow one cent of my budget go to Brazil while they continue to make scapegoats of US pilots to cover up for the shortcomings of their ATC system.

So as you can see, the boycott is already working. Can anyone else provide a story? I know mine sounds rather lame, but that's at least 3 million that won't go to their economy.

I read that they can only be extradited if both the US and Brazil would agree that a crime has occurred. I think that's highly unlikely.

It would be nice if pilots could figure a way to torpedo further sales of Brazilias (of all sizes & shapes) until the pilots get an apology.

A dose of revenge is clearly in order.

Is EMB owned by the Brazilian Government?

If the government holds no interest in the manufacturer than why should an issue of politics and ajendas affect people whose only fault is their street address?

If EMB is a government managed entity, then the following address is a good place to overload a dozen or so email servers with every bit of spam, and useless file possible. If a thousand people send a 1MB attachment of some irrelevant info that is not porn or spam, it should make it through all the filters. You can find and hose your favorite EMB contact from the following. If the sales force is unable to do business on the world market for a few days, while they clean out their inboxes, it ought to have an impact. However, ONLY if someone can verify EMB is tied to the Brazilian Government.

Sorry for the late post. I have been away from a computer for some time.

Someone please find the link to the video news coverage of yesterdays historic event and post it as there was quite a bit of news media present.

On Saturday, December 9, 2006 I was honored to be invited by ExcelAire President Bob Sherry to join 200 family, friends and colleagues of Joe Lepore and Jan Paladino to meet Joe and Jan's aircraft upon arrival from Brazil in Islip New York.

It was a very emotional time and great celebration seeing these two heroes come back home! I was very honored to meet both Joe and Jan for the first time and was able to talk with them for quite a few minutes. I did my best to relay to the both of them the huge outpouring of support and assistance from their peers on this and other aviation forums. I told them we were all so proud of them and extremely happy for their safe return.

I have so much more to say on yesterdays event but unfortunately it will have to wait a day or so until I have time to gather my thoughts. Yesterday was a very emotional day and being away from home on a computer from kinko's I can't do this justice with only a few paragraphs.

To everyone on this forum who took the time to write your elected leaders and who kept Joe and Jan in you prayers and thoughts THANK YOU!

Go ahead and spam Embraer if it makes you sleep better at nite, certainly they will suffer the wrath of your spam attacks.

Embraer was privitized in 1994. The government does have a very small slice of the pie (preferred stock) but I think they only weigh in on the defense side of business (Tucanos, ALX, etc).

Embraer has no bearing on this case at all, except saving face re the transponder (which may have been faulty). The whole circus involving the pilots was orchestrated by the brazilian military-run ATC.
