With almost 2000 newhires by the time contract '08 is voted on, we will be improving our contract. This will be a very different company in a few short years...
This is funny, cus people think the opposite of Southwest Airlines. They think our next contract MUST get worst then where we are now. You know growth slowing, longer upgrades...doom and gloom. We were the best thing, now its all over. Company still pays cash for airplanes, buying 1 billion worth of stock back, bad scene here.......
Now onto CAL, "hey we are awesome, we hired a whole bunch, we ARE going to improve our contract cus we hired a bunch of guys (SWA hired more in that time frame, by-the-way). We are adding planes too (not as much as Southwest Airlines) but we get fat ones they dont and ours come with payments. So while some of us hope SWA Pilots have paycuts, we are getting a great contract here in 2008 on the amendable date..."
try 2010, dude.![]()
the SWA/FOimp:
While I agree with most of what you said, the "legacy carriers are the only reason you have your current pay rates" statement shows your bitterness and total lack of intelligence.

totally agree. It is important for swa that other airline pilots get their pay back up. I don't believe that swa will ever be a "normal" airline just for the simple fact that it is their mgmts. goal to run a successful airline. That's not normal for the industry.I am by no means bitter at SWA. All I am saying is that it is important to SWA pilots that all the other airlines get their pay back up. Without it, you turn into a normal airline.
I think he meant even UPS in the sense they don't hire as much as most other places and they are difficult to even get interviews with. "Even UPS", the way I read it was like "even UPS!" in a positive way. I have never known Albie to be a chop-buster. Then again, he does work for your competition![]()
Exactly.
I think gettting hired by UPS is very tough with the long line of folks who want to be there and (lately) their high requirements on Int'l experience. Yet some XJT guys have found a way to clear that hurdle. I was impressed...
As for UPS...great folks, great airline, and a great new contract. Nice of them to pull the bar up last time...
Yes,

I don't hope SWA takes a paycut. But you guys should be hoping the CAL guys do get a huge pay raise. Remember, the Legacy carriers are the ONLY reason you have your current the pay rates. SWA pay WAS never higher than the big boys. Now it is, but it is only because the big boys have gotten hammered over the years. It is important for SWA pilots that the majors get back to where they were so you can keep your cost advantage over us.

Are you serious? CAL or Southwest? Hmm, tough one!
CAL is broke and has actual crap streaming down the aisles of the flights cause there is no money to fix stuff apparently.
Southwest is a great profitable company. I would take the luv anyday over the crap.
Hey Guys (and Gals)
Thanks for all the responses and insight. Yes, SWA is the place I've wanted to work since I was in high school....I feel like I want to shoot for my dream job at least one more time. I don't feel like CAL gave me a type rating because I was one of "those guys" who paid for it before I got to CAL (but lets not start another one of those threads).
Flying internationally doesn't appeal to me at all...but being home with more days off, great people, and a little more $$ sounds pretty good. That being said, I'm fairly young (28) and maybe 30 years from now I would want to do international stuff (but then again, maybe SWA will be doing that then).
One thing I worry about is my buddy at CAL that helped me get the job...but I also worry if I interview at SWA and have the 6-7 people there that I know write me letters...I don't want them to get any heat for me interivewing and then not accepting the job (if I got offered one that is).
I guess I need to get a second interview call before I need to worry about anything....but just wanted to get thoughts from others.
Hence the reason why I said "by the time contract '08 is voted on". It is obvious to everyone but you apparently that contracts are not ratified until 2 to 3 years after the amendable date.
Shut up ho.
Reeeeeaaaaal niiiiiiice!
Very becoming of a "professional" aviator too.![]()
"She'll" get over it. So will you.
Don't worry studmuffin, if your opinion had even a shred of importance in my life, I might need to get over it. Guess what? It doesn't.
Not going to go into a CAL vs SWA debate here. These are 2 very different companies doing different things. I think you are worried about letting CAL or your friends down if you end up going to SWA. Don't!!! This is your life and your career. If your heart is at SWA, and they hire you, you have to go; period.... Don't worry about what CAL thinks. It happens more than you think here and I think it is good that people are leaving from time to time. Your friends will get over it if they are truly good friends. I had my best friend leave CAL for DAL a few months ago. I'm happy for him as DAL was his dream and his legacy. Go for it!!!!
IAHERJ[/quo
No one ever stated the simple stuff. Just shy of two years at CAL = weekends AND holidays off at EWR (737) weekends OR holidays off at IAH. Oh, days off. I can now hold a line in the 777 and that equals 19-21 days off per month.
I cannot believe the tal of the balance sheet on this forum. That is the, "I bet my dad can beat up your dad" bs. If you live at a SWA domicile.....than I would switch.
However...mega, I know that my opinions DO mean something in your life. And by the way, I'm supposed to be the only one you're calling studmuffin!
