Im looking for some help with these acronyms
EADI
EHSI
DPU
MPU
ADC
AHS
EFD
MFD
BLE
ADC1(L)
GPU
Possible interview, trying to get very familiar. It is probably obvious I have zero jet experience.
Thanks in advance.

well, its been a while since I saw a lear manual or a FSI class but I can give it a whack --

EADI- Electronic Attitude Direction Indicator (?)
EHSI - Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicator
DPU ----power unit (?)
MPU --- power unit (?)
ADC - Air Data Computer
AHS - ----heading selector
EFD- engine function display (?)
MFD - multifunction display (?)
BLE - boundary layer energizer (see pete reynolds)
ADC1L - Air Data computer 1 Left side (pilots)
GPU - Ground Power unit.

well, dammm, maybe I should rip up my LrJet rating!!....godam planes with gauges...push that craap out in the pasture and let weeds grow up over it! (kidding)

one question. why in the world would you need to know these for an interview?????

heck, I bet most guys who fly (flew) these things around didnt know this useless garbage.

MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY
BOUNDRY LATER ENERGIZERS

I have several hundred hours of Lear 55 time, and several thousand hours of Lear experience, but I don't know some of those. That should be a good indication of how important it is to know these acronyms as a potential new-hire. (Or a good indication of what a moron I am!:) )

In all seriousness, unless you have specific gouge that the employer is going to want you to know this esoteric stuff, don't worry about it. If your looking for general Learjet stuff, do a search with "Lear" and "Learjet" on these boards. Lots of folks in previous years have posted questions concerning the airplane.

Good luck on the interview. If you get the job, PM me for some advice on how to prepare for training.

Hey G200,

I think we'd both better surrender our certificates, dude. We missed the same stuff, which makes me feel a little better.

Howz about this:

DPU= Dimensional Plexing Unit
MPU=Macro Pixellation Unit
AHS=Abnormal Hardover Servo
EFD=Ellington Field, TX

Disclaimer: Please don't memorize the four listed above for the interview.

Thanks a bunch, I was given a Limitations Sheet to study, those were all the acronyms on it that I didn't know. Figured it couldn't hurt to get the heads up, but also figured I was going overboard.

yeah. sounds like a job I wouldn't get...which would be for the better as I would probably scare myself (nevermind the pax) in a Learjet now anyways!

well. could be. they both have that lame 70's look going..

but then again, its a Learjet.

No really. Pete is (was?) a test pilot who did great write-ups on Learjet wings and the "mach tuck" phenomenon. If you take the job be sure to ask around for his write-ups. The more you know the better.

I have seen people do some real stupid stuff in Learjets that they picked up from hangar bull$hit talk. More than a few brand new ex-CFI Learjet F/O's have been killed by weak PIC's operating Learjets outside the limitations and not understanding the consequences!!

Good Luck with the job!

LJ55C acronyms

Most of those listed have already been correctly ID'ed by others, but FWIW here are a couple I might be able to help with:

DPU: Digital Processing Unit (EFIS "symbol generator")
MPU: Multi-function (display) Processing Unit
AHS: Attitude and Heading (referance) System
(solid-state "gyro" system using the piesio-electric effect to detect accelerations, info sent to DPU which will output to EFIS EADI & EHSI --similar to an IRS in attitude only/not NAV mode)

LJ55C acronyms (one more)

EFD: Electronic Flight (instrument) Display (just another way of refering to both the EADI and EHSI--unfortunately, the LJ55b/c do not have any form of EICAS. You have the old-style "steam gauges" for all engine parameters)

Dispite all the fancy acronyms, the LJ55B and C (which is a B model with "Delta Fins") are early generation EFIS aircraft. They have a much improved (and more logical) cockpit lay-out and improved systems compared to earlier Learjets, but the technology is far from cutting edge. The first Learjet with anything approaching a modern/integrated electronic flight deck was the 60.
