What is the difference between the 45 and 45xr, is it only the br engine mod. How many hours with tanks full, seats full. Is the cargo area exterior? Reliability? Typical Bow? General likes and dislikes? Thanks for all your input.

Basically the same airplane as I understand it with the engine mod., which by the way is only a software change and different performance numbers. The XR also has some interior changes (LED lighting, etc...)

It is just a computer upgrade in the deec to allow engine to run at higher ITT. It might have slightly more than range because you can get to altitude quicker since the engines are not as temp sensitive. The interior is different too. They added LED lighting and removed the armrest closest to the window since it just takes ups space and then moved the seats closer to the windows which makes the aisle a little wider.

If you get a 45, the XR is the way to go. With the upgrade you get about 200 more miles. Baggage compartment is in the rear with a 500lb limitation. Its plenty roomy for 6 sets of golf clubs. Fully loaded with pax your looking at 4hr endurance with reserves. its a good bird with great brakes.

The XR allows for full rated thrust at 104F at sea level. Takeoff performance out of Eagle/Aspen Co. is much better also with the XR. The fans also turn up getting you 100%. You can really feel the difference. We have both at FLexjet. During a normal climb at MCT in one of the older AR birds you can expect 2000 to 2500 feet/min climb. If you set that climb in a XR you will exceed 330KTS in a heart beat.

We run a straight 45, and haven't missed the extra poop yet. I'm sure if we flew both, we would want the BR mod, but it ain't cheap!

You gotta love an airplane that you can fill the seats, fill the tanks, and still leave a wet, 5000' runway with the anti-ice turned on and fly 2000 miles.

Unless, of course, you want to fly 2300nm...

General likes:

Excellent performance
Comfortable above everything at FL450
Relatively fast
Great baggage
Brakes are fantastic
Gorgeous airplane, the boss loves the way it looks
Easy and enjoyable to fly

Grumbles:

Cabin is tight
We don't have an APU, most do.
Nosewheel steering took a little getting used too (sensitive electric)
Won't make Hawaii!!!

For most 4.5 hour missions the 45XR is THE airplane to use. It's rare to have a weight limitation, and if you have one, it's usually tolerable. PAX love it, fun to fly, looks great on the ramp, too (boss likes this aspect).

Likes:

Performance
Climb Rate (get out of ATC's hair quick)
Baggage
Brakes
Easy to Fly

DON'T LIKE
Seems Delicate - ours is at Tucson Learjet once a month (flying 600 hours a year)

FMS doesn't talk to Honeywell very well - the VNAV feature is useless (unless you want to risk an altitude bust)

Can't use flight spoilers and flaps at the same time (when needed, this is a nice feature to have)
