...well aren't you a lucky guy.

Why can't we all be spoiled Delta FO's? :crying:

You need to interview at DL first. Newhires are doing the same trips on the 767ER. Spoiled? I just described an average 6 day trip to Europe at Delta.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Wow, a 6 day trip flown on the back side of the clock...........sounds like a little slice of Heaven!

I've got to agree. Europe is fun but I'll stick with the lighter (to me) and much more local schedules while using the travel benefits to continue to see the world with my wife rather than with other pilots/crew. 8 hour flights aren't attractive unless I'm asleep in the back. But, again, to each his own-at least we have the choice.

Hey General, just out of curiosity, bidding the international stuff as you do-what's the average month? You get a couple of 6-days and off the rest?

Yeah, why do trips to Europe, South America, the Caribbean or even Africa (interspersed with US mainland trips during the winter season) when you can do 4-5 sectors per day with 30 minute turns to the same destinations over and over for the rest of your career? You just can't get enough of Boise, CLE and SMF in my opinion. If you want thrilling to break up your monotony, try Birmingham, Alabama or Harlingen, TX. Phoenix in the summer is wonderful too.

Well, my background is corporate-I've been to pretty much the majority of the current exotic destinations. After a while, like everything else, it's a job.

I wasn't being critical of the international guys at all, I was just pointing out that the lifestyle involved isn't for everyone. As for the monotony of the destinations I visit now, yup, they're about as exciting as cspan in the summer. The difference is with this job is that I don't stay at these sinkholes longer than a night's sleep and breakfast (if the hotel has beds and a toaster...not always the case).

Europe is fun in summer time.. On the other hand, Bangkok is fun year round

And consequtive ELP layovers sounds better, sandwiched between 4 or 5 flights a day? Yeah, seeing the sights, eating first class meals, and expanding your horizons is tough stuff.... And Jim, thanks sooooo much for your support of the age 65 rule. I hope you tell your FOs how much you were in favor of that. I bet they hate you.

Thank gawd at Delta a pilot has options in fleet choices. You don't have to fly ONLY INTL or ONLY DOM. If you are on the 757/767/764 fleet, you only have a 9 month seat hold on each. You can go back to DOM after 9 months, or go try INTL for 9 months. If you go to a new fleet (ie the 777 from the 767), then you have a 2 year seat hold. Not bad at all.

Classic! But hey, SWA is a great airline with fun people. No doubt about that.

Odds....

Wow, sounds FANTASTIC. I think you should continue to bid LBB. Sounds like easy flying, and really nice people. That report is NOT the one I heard directly from a Southwest FO a few months ago, who told me that he got really sick on a quesadilla from the hotel restaurant. He proceeded to tell me that the hotel staff was not very comforting, and that he barely made it back to Love Field where he called in sick. He said he had the "faucet" from both ends for the next couple days, and that he wouldn't bid it again, since just thinking about it made him "crown" from his back end.

But hey, if you like going to Lubbock, great. I tend to go for cities that really make me excited about the layover. Certain cities in Europe, like Lubbock probably, have great history, and cuisine that is a lot different than the average American fare. Sure, it can be a bit expensive with the exchange rate, but a lot of our hotels give great discounts too. My last trip involved a 6 day trip to London Heathrow. We left on schedule from ATL at about 1030pm, and arrived into Heathrow at around 1200noon local. I took a short nap and got up with enough time to see some sights. Kensington Palace was very close, along with all the sight within a short tube ride--very accessible from our hotel. Meeting the crew back at the hotel, we all (including younger stews) had a few pints, and even had a meal together (all for 14 pounds--thanks to the 30% discount from the hotel). Later the next day we left for JFK, which was a comfortable 8 hour flight, arriving at about 7pm. A breeze through customs and we all set out (the three of us pilots) to enjoy a 31 hour layover in Manhattan. We stay at a very nice hotel, and it is on Madison Avenue, with nice hotels and Times Square nearby. I had time to see a first run movie, and some shopping for the wife, along with a good meal with the Captain and other FO. The next morning we set out for JFK again, for a 7 hour flight to LHR, with a night arrival. During the flight I watched more movies and had a first class meal, and upon arriving at LHR (around 910pm), I was tired enough to fall right asleep when I got to the hotel. I woke up the next morning and got a nice pastry nearby, and got the pick up for a 130pm departure, arriving home at 630pm. For the six day trip we got 34 hours of pay, and I got to see London twice, which I enjoy, and Manhattan once, which I also love. You can't find enough good restaurants in NYC. The late departure from ATL and the early departure from JFK had NO delays, and customs was always a breeze.

In the Winter I do a lot of Rio and Buenos Aires flights because it is Summer down there. But this Summer up here, I try to see different places in Europe. I have another 6 day coming up, with Rome the destination, and I intend to see the Vatican, go to the Trevi Fountain, and eat a lot of pasta---on Delta's dime. Enjoy Lubbock. Try Midland next.

Bye Bye--General Lee

What's the over/under on the Genital spontaneously bursting into flame when he walks with 50 yds. of the Vatican? Probably related to his "fun year-round" in Bangkok.

-BTW-quit replying to yourself as 737pylt in the very next post. No one falls for that weakass crap anymore, Bill.

As a young flight student I did dream that one day I would fly heavy equipment across the ponds to exciting international destinations. I do enjoy traveling to many of the destinations The General listed. Unfortunately always on my dime.
This dream ended for me after the post 9/11. After many pilots retirements, qol, and career expectations were diminished. I could care less about the glamor of flying.
I wanted to work for a company that had the most potential to keep me employed continuously for the rest of my career. Brown uniforms, back side of the clock flying, or flying white trash across the good ole USA. These were the jobs I wanted. Continuous employment with great contracts.
I will take my LBB overnights (have not had one yet though), my 6 leg days (happens once a year), and my 3 day trips and overnight at my favourite location. Home.

Hey, to each his own. You can rationalize postives and negatives for both domestic and international flying... Peace out!

expanding your horizons is tough stuff....

Bye Bye--General Lee

I am Eurotrash, and I bet you're on of those loudmouth americans who everyone wants to beat the s==tout of, because you tell them how they should do it. Expand your horizons.......yea right.

Correct....

You are correct, sir!

General Lee is a complete crap-covered turd. He is a total pompous butt-hole...... However, I would not claim absolution as Euro-trash-not a damn bit better!

-Must be French-you just need to go eat some smelly cheese and find someone to surrender to-this will fulfill your destiny!
