Hahaha, I'm glad you guys mentoned it, I'm really not familiar with LA and was gonna head that way, after finding out whe it was.
 
Like Reebo said - those are just pretty bad areas of town. If you don't have a car, I'd head down to Santa Monica and see 3rd Street, the Pier, the Boardwalk in Venice, etc...it's all pretty close.

If you do have access to a car, then you have a LOT more options.
 
Santa Monica isn't a bad place to be, so not having a car won't be a huge deal. Have a good time! I'm jealous - I haven't been home (L.A.) in over a year.
