I'm never the one to start a new thread, but I'd thought this is interesting stuff. I can only guess where this is going, but atleast I don't feel so helpless. Now, let's see some return of my 34.3%!

"The Air Line Pilots Association today filed a lawsuit against Alaska Airlines in federal District Court in Seattle. The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief and asks the court to vacate the April 30, 2005 arbitration decision and return to the status quo as it existed prior to that award.

The Complaint filed today contends that the Arbitration Board, with Richard Kasher as Arbitrator, violated the Railway Labor Act by failing to exercise its jurisdiction an apply an average with respect to the Association’s request for a work preservation provision. The Complaint also charges that the Arbitration Board failed to abide by its jurisdictional limitation regarding the subject of profit sharing because the Board went outside the positions of the parties on the subject.

The Association continues to desire to work with Management to find a fair, equitable and negotiated labor agreement. The Association hopes Management will join us in working toward that goal."

True. A step in the right direction though. Gives a glimmer of hope at least.

Don't hold your breath guys. ANC Council 64 had a meeting last week. Jim Lindsey, our legal counsel during arbitration was there. He told us that they were planning on bringing this lawsuit against the company. He also said several times that while it is extreamly rare to win a case like this, it does happen every once in a great while, so we might as well go ahead and try...

In other words, "you don't have a snow flakes chance in winning this lawsuit, but as your lawyer I can still suck a little more money out of you, so I think we should at least try."

I would highly recommend going to your next council meeting and hear the information for yourself. The board is fine to get some info, but it is far better to go hear it for yourself from the men who were at the table.

As we all know, baring a miracle, this is our contract, this is our life for the next 4 to 5 years. Fly the contract, fly the FOM, don't do VSA. Go to work, be 100% safe, fly the jet like you always have - safe and efficiently - get our pax from A to B. Other than that, ALL the extra stuff we use to do to keep the schedule going is history. I use to call for the fuel truck all the time, not anymore. I use to notice a burned out light bulb inbound to ANC on the last leg, not anymore. I use to hurry and try to make up time on the ground during those highly efficient mid-pairing aircraft swaps, not anymore. I use to push on the igloo's with the rampers and help them with the bellys from time to time on a freighter, not anymore. I use to have faith in our leadership, then he cut my pay by 29%, claims there is a "typo" to try and suck 15 more minutes out of me, and locks out 472 families - all in the same month.

In a few years we will look back on today and see it as the turning point of our airline. It will be the big Y in the road. It could be the beginning of greatness or the beginning of the end. Personally I just don't know, and that scares me more than the 29% pay cut.
 
I'm sorry you guys are seeing your airline go through this.

I've said repeatedly that there are several examples of how to run a good, profitable airline. Management at failing airlines consistently refuse to see those example and stick to the tried and failed method of beating on the employees.

stick it out and do what you can for yourself. this has been happening to too many people and needs to stop. it is not the fault of the workers that the company is in trouble nor should the workers pay for it. they don't seem to know how much we do for them. if they treat us fair we gladly go out of our way to get the job done. not anymore though.
 
ALPA filing a lawsuit???? Pleaaaaase. This Union is a joke and anybody w/ half a brain knows it. ALK management is laughing big time.
 
Mandatory binding arbitration and lack of scope are the twin towers of evil in contracts today. Avoid them like the plague.
