Well, being as I've been helping Friends of Meigs out lately in their fight, just wanted to pass on the latest which was released in their newsletter today.

The City of Chicago is almost directly attacking and laughing in the face of aviation with their latest actions. The Chicago Park District (run by a very close friend of Herr Daley) announced a fast-track contract approval for the demolition company to finish the destruction of Meigs. This isn't what's pissing me off. It's the fact that the City of Chicago and the Park District announced that the contract would be paid using funds from the City of Chicago Federal Aviation Funds Program. (Which, If I remember right, is not legal since the FAA prohibits the use of the funds for anything other than the furthurance of aviation.) Using Federal monies earmarked for aviation to finish the destruction of one of the most popular General Aviation Airports in the US, if not toe world is just a HUGE slap in the face....

Sorry.... just had to rant and vent on this one.

Make sure that you vote DEMOCRAT in 2004 and keep in mind that this is a general aviation bulletin board. No politics allowed here as it doesn't relate to aviation at all.

If there is a park built there. I call on everyone to vadalize his park. He vadalized MY airport so I will destroy HIS park.

This is the 'GENERAL' section meaning anything in general about aviation as a whole, not the GA section, there are even threads titled 'the longest political thread', diet threads, and telemarketing...

and last I checked Meigs Field was an AVIATION airport, and FEDERAL AVIATION MONIES were AVIATION related as well.... and FAA rules pertaining to federal funding is aviation related as well.... sorry, but how the heck did I piss you off? What do you have against my post or Meigs in general?

VampyreGTX...I don't have anything against your post at all. You just missed the satire. The governor of Ill is a DEMOCRAT and politics has everything to do with aviation.

Sorry, missed that! (that's what sucks about posts! can't tell always if they're satirical or sarcastic!)

My favorite is that Daley himself said when asked what he thinks that more than 70% of the residents of Chicago want Meigs and not a park "I'm not here to be a lover boy." And that is a direct quote.... In other words, he's not a mayor to do what the residents want? WHAT?! Whatever, I know Meigs is most likely gone for good, I just hate that Daley is almost finishing the process by laughing in the face of aviation... and on the 100th ANNIVERSARY at that!

We had a Democrat Mayor in the city of Madison...who ticked off the liberals to the point of losing re-election, because she was using her powers as a municipal executive to lobby congress for slave reparations. She wound up getting tossed out after 6 years in office. Evidently the needs of the people were not being met by their Mayor, when she determined that she was going to jam this reparations thing down everybodys throat and wallet.

And what about descendants of the blacks who owned slaves? According to the U.S. Census of 1830, there were 3,775 free blacks who owned 12,740 slaves. Shouldn't we track them down and make them pay, too?

I would think the Chicago business community would want Meigs for their execs.

Do most corporate flights with execs going downtown use Meigs?Or do they go elsewhere?

Were there many Chicago companies basing their corporate aviation at Meigs?

I read somewhere that demolition should begin again end of july first of Aug.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like we lost this one. :(
