Airline suspends flights from Kalamazoo to Minneapolis

Pinnacle Airlines' one daily flight from the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport to Minneapolis will be suspended between April 9 and May 2 to give the airline time to hire and train additional pilots.

Pinnacle Airlines Vice President Philip Reed said last week that the schedule change occurred after 20 of the airline's 1,200 pilots -- Pinnacle refers to them as captains -- resigned to take jobs with larger, mainline carriers.

``We reduced our schedules in order to marry flights with an adequate number of captains,'' Reed said. ``We will be able to return to regular flight schedules as we're adding captains back in.''

Pinnacle operates at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport as Northwest Airlink, a regional carrier for Northwest Airlines. In addition to the Minneapolis flight, Pinnacle operates six daily flights from Kalamazoo to Detroit. Karen Wolff, spokeswoman for the airport, said Pinnacle officials have done a ``good job of reaccommodating those local passengers impacted by the schedule change.'' In addition to Pinnacle, the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek airport is served by Northwest Airlines and Mesaba Airlines, Northwest's other regional carrier; American Eagle; United Express; and Comair and Atlantic Southeast airlines, operating as Delta Connection carriers.

I love how "pilots" are referred to as "captains." So what are "first officers" referred to as? Gear throwing b*tches? :smash:

If they admit that a couple of dozen first officers are leaving each month for other regional airlines that pay better then the company can't spin this as "normal attrition". In all of the press stories I have read about Pinnacle the company has never been honest with the public.

I like the way mgmt acts like staffing is getting back to "normal" this month...
As if not having flights in open time because you CANCELLED them is a staffing model...

I heard "a" reserve CA didn't fly on one of his reserve days this week...MGMT must be PISSED!
