Had the same results as Bender in '99. Corrected my 'stig and 20/200+. Now I can't believe I wore glasses so long.

Ask your AME if he has ever done the medical issuance after LASIK. It's real easy, your eye doc fills out a form you can print from AOPA and the AME rubber stamps it. No OKC involvement. Just make sure your AME knows this beforehand!
 
My wife had lasik done a while back. I went to all appointments, told the doc I was a pilot and asked about a million questions. It's just a matter of time until I have it done myself. But after listening to the doc, I'd say definitely do your research and spend every dime you have on the latest technology that is suitable for you. Sure you may save a few bucks somewhere else, but more than likely it's second generation hardware/technology and you won't get the result/flexibilty (touchup cabability etc) as you will with the latest technology.
