What is the best laptop out there between $1000-1500? I am looking for light weight and fast. I am almost leaning towards a mac or the dell 700m, never had a mac, but only hear good things about them. Any one have a mac?advice? 700m? advice? Can you use office on a mac or does mac make something similiar? Last, anyone know of a good, durable computer case for bringing to work. Thanks 3green

I just picked up one of the Dell XPS M140's, they start around 900 bucks. I like it a lot, but I upgraded processor and hard drive. For more information, check out Dells website.

Typing this on a Dell 700m. A delightful piece of equipment. The "full size" laptop really hogs a suitcase, this thing fits quite nicely and I can still bring my shoes on an overnight. Beautiful LCD screen, built solidly, powerful internal WiFi, good battery endurance, and lightweight to boot.

I just got an Acer. They are great laptops and are extremely good for the $. Mine has a ton of hard drive space (100GB), 1GB ram, 64 bit processor @ 1.6GHz, wifi, and DVD burner and got it for $800 with a free printer and wireless router from circuit city.

I had an Acer "extensa", but the hinge on the screen bezel kept breaking and I had to replace it once and it broke right away again. It did a good job and served mostly as a desktop connected to a Dell 19" monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse. I used a USB port as a "docking station" for a cd/rw and all in one printer and operated wirelessly though a PCMCIA card in a slot.

I think I had that Acer under moderate usage for the better part of 6 years, but it is toast now. Currently, it takes about 12 minutes to fire up.

I'm keeping it for file sharing purposes, but I don't know what to do with that old Acer...I may use it solely to run the all in one printer and cd/rw, but I don't know why...maybe sentimental reasons.

Glad you got a good deal on an Acer, but after that hinge problem I couldn't go back to them.

iBooks are great, IMO. I think several people on here have one.

If you want the 700m and want $400 off, go to www.edealinfo.com/dell

scroll down to where it lists Dell small business laptops and find the link for the 700m.

Click the link and it will give you instructions to get $400 off the 700m.

New dell coupons come out on thursdays I think. When I found one for a friend it was $500 off the 700m plus a free dvd-/+rw upgrade. With tax it came to less than $1000.

You don't buy from the site, but it does give you coupon codes to use when you check out on the dell site.

If you already know about the coupon codes, good for you. If not, I only charge $20 for the advise :)

Got the 12in powerbook a few weeks ago and after using a Toshiba for 7 yrs, I am very happy with it. 4.5lbs and fits great in either bag, overnite or flight. $1499
