I was wondering if anyone had experience with the Lancair Turbine? My trips are getting shorter so I don't need the legs of the Conquest any longer, plus I don't take my sales team with me to most accounts, so space isn't really an issue. I would love to hear what you guys think of this plane.

Also how would the time be logged being an experimental?

It would be logged as single engine land.

The only prohibition that I am aware of is that it can't be used in operations that require a commerical certificate.

I would contact one of the EAA's advisors for more information.

If you are not an EAA member I highly suggest becoming one before considering building a kit plane.

That is my dream plane. I hope they make a production version, the 400 comes closer than the 350 so I guess that will have to do. It must be a total rush to pass a passenger airline in a single!:D

Have you considered a Tradewind Turbine Bonanza, Turbine Malibu, or TBM 700? I can't speak on behalf of the Malibu, but the Bonanza is a pretty hot machine with a turbine. The speed isn' t impressive, but the climb performance is great. That TBM is a whole different animal.....speed, climb, range, room, and style points.

It is 370 MPH (321 Kts) at FL260... Still haulin for a little single... But I don't think you'll be passin many "airliners" except maybe some turbo-props...

Ops didn't notice the MPH, they have a one that does 10MPH faster, but it only has two seats.

Saw one at ADS last week.

Has anyone survived a landing out of an engine failure in one of these (any Lancair IV) yet? I know of one exception- A Canadian who lost a prop blade, shut down, deadsticked in and walked away.

You are probably not too concerned about insurance costs given that you own a Conquest, but if I were shopping, my pick would be the Meridian or a Tradewind Turbine Bonanza. I would think these would be easier to insure. A new Meridian would qualify for the new first year tax depreciation credit (50 or 60%) passed last year.

Good luck in your selection.

Thank you for the replies. I have considered a TBM or a PC 12 but then you are back into the $1 Mill + range. The Tradewinds Bonanza is really pretty slow so I would probably opt out on that, the Meridian is a nice plane if it can be had right, but then again it's not too fast.

I'll keep you posted if I ever come to a decision. Thanks again.

Did you guys see Bill Elliots propjet on their website? Looks to be very well done, I have inquired about the price. I have also left word with my insurance broker who is out sick today (he's one of my EE's). If all goes well I may be sportin' a new ride.

I know personally of one fellow in a Lancair IVP who had a problem with foreign material in the induction system, leading to an engine failure. Deadsticked in and landed a bit short of the intended runway in a field. No injuries, damage to the aircraft was extensive but repairable.

Met a couple with one at the Abilene EAA (SW Regional) Fly In a year or two ago. They lived near Las Vegas. made it non stop to Abilene in 3-3.5 hrs as I recall. You may not be outrunning an airliner in the air, but house to hotel, it's got all commercial flights beat on that range trip.

and experimental time logs just like any other. This would be complex turbine single PIC.

That planes is so beautiful, it almost hurts to look at it. I wonder how much it's going for. One day I will own one, even if I have to live in a tent.:D

I would forgo the tent and just live in the airplane.

Swass ... you'd think someone with your money would own a better-looking cat. That thing is downright scarey. Was it a stray or did you actually pay for it? :D

Minh

BTW ... my vote is for you to keep the Conquest and pay me to fly it for you. When do we start boss?

The cat (thank God) isn't mine, a friend sent a pic to me and I thought it was hilarious although a little freaky. I have not heard back on Elliot's Lancair, I expect it to be around 500k, maybe a little more.

My wife has been trying to convince me buy a Motorcoach instead of a new plane so we can vacation in it with the kids, tow the car behind. She has her eyes on a Vantare 45' with slides. I love coaches but man are they expensive to maintain, along the same lines as the Conquest. We'll see.

Here's something like she wants: http://www.fthr.com/coaches/h3-45.asp

I would never buy new, especially a coach.

Some piston IV-Ps are going for as much as $500K so I think this rare bird could fetch 7 or 8.
104PT is painfully gorgeous.
If you get it, put the winglets on...

I think the coaches' point is to be slow and super comfy. I've test driven a few of them and they are hella cool to drive, king of the road style.

I saw one for sale somewhere for about $750,000. I think it was three or four years old. Other than that, I don't remember much about it.
