I'm fairly new to the charter business, but not new to flying. I've been offered a position as a KingAir PIC with "light" management duties (a company nearby will be handling the majority of the management responsibilities). It is in the LA basin. I was wondering what the "going rate" is as far as salary and benefits are concerened. It will be mostly Part 91 flying, with some 135 charter thrown in. What's the ballpark salary, days off (if any!), vacation, sick benefits should I expect. Should I be expecting ANY benefits at all, other than a paycheck? Is 401k/retirement contributions a realistic expectation?

I would estimate 60k per year (assuming you fly single pilot) with medical, dental and possibly vision coverage. You should have a 401K, preferably with a 100% company match up to 6% of your salary. 2 weeks vacation a year. Minimum four days off per month (to abide by the 13 days in a quarter regulation for charter).

Just my guess, based on others I've spoken with who fly king airs.

I fly a King Air 200 single pilot, and a Jetstream 32 for a charter company in TN and making 39K as captain on both after about a year. We are underpaid though i believe. If management responsibilities are involved, id say 50-60K would be the min. The more time off the better.
