Which would you choose to take pax into NYC for the weekend?

Or are there others?

P.S. comming from PHNL

When I have a trip to NYC, we always go to TEB. There are four pretty good FBO's on the field. It's also not too far of a drive from downtown. Teterboro is popular/busy for a reason. I can't comment on FRG; I haven't been there.

If you do plan on going to FRG it is 25-30 min to the midtown tunnel in no traffic. i have spent an hour and a half though at rush hour. the airport is nice. alot less busy than TEB parking is never a problem, catering and transportation as well as a good selelction of hotels are readily available. I would suggest atlantic aviaition. their facility is alot nicer than sheltair.

I agree with the post about LGA. More fun anyways. And it's not like getting in and out of TEB is just a breeze anyways. Just make sure you can get there for your slotted time.

Why don't more people use EWR? It's pretty close to the city. Is it to avoid Signature?

Keep em comming.

For some reason the owner doesn't like KTEB -

How hard is it it get a slot at LGA? and who do you ask?

You might also consider how to get out of NYC.

I've been to each airport only once. Sometimes (and this is from viewing the FAA website), TEB will be subject to lengthy taxi delays--possibly up to an hour due to various departure corridors. However these delays aren't as frequent as the 3 major airports in the area.

TEB's longest runway is 6800ish ft. FRG, I think, has 7000ish.

If the boss is on a tight departure sched., I'd go ahead and chance FRG.

It's six of one, half dozen of the other really.

How long's that flight gonna be from paradise?

And does anyone know if Rudy's is still in business?

Go to EWR. No slots, 30 min to city. Good and affordable hotels for crew nearby. Much safer to operate in and out of than TEB or FRG. And as far as Signature's go, it's not that bad.

Can't you get a slot for LGA through the e-stmp program. I've only had to use it for ASE/EGE/RIL and for Super Bowl...usually our schedule department sets up LGA. I'd rather go to FRG for us. Not as busy at all and no having to wait for the shuttle to/from the 5 towers. And no 15 deep congo line either. Just try to schedule arrival/departure for non-rush hour and stay at the Marriott. We use Atlantic 90% of the time. The other one (can't recall the name) is okay, too. Never had a problem with either.

We go to TEB a few times a month, and it sometimes gets painful to park at any of the FBO's. We always get there at the busy times it seems.

TEB gets my vote, there is heavy traffic there but folks still get in and out every day, and yes Rudys is still around. Your Boss hates it because he probably got stuck in a gate hold for 4 hours, it won't be much better anywhere else when that kinda stuff is going on anyway. My second would be Newark but I can't think of anywhere close to the airport I would want to stay without some type of firearm! :)

The Renaissance at rt3 and 17 is very nice with a great steak house.

Well, today aside, TEB is the way to go. Yes, it can get crazy busy at times, but all the FBO's and the tower are very, very used to it and all operate under those conditions better than any other airport I've ever been. 99% of delays at TEB are caused by delays at EWR, probably one of the worst airports for delays in the entire country...even Northwest Airlines site lists the on-time rate of 50%.

LGA is ok, but the FBO is awful, inconvenient for pax due to being far from the aircraft and they (sheltair) never seem to know what the heck is going on with the pax transportation. And, you have the unpredictable Queens traffic to deal with on the way to the city.

Look, TEB is busy for a reason-it works better than any other and it's closer than the others.

HPN is ok, MMU is also-if distance isn't a concern.

EWR Hotels

Either stay in NYC or go to the Short Hills Hilton -- very nice hotel -- about 15 minutes west of EWR (and less than 10 minutes east of MMU).

Either TEB or HPN. Both are fairly easy to get into. Getting out might take a little time from TEB if approach is busy, but not too bad. Meridian at TEB has a new FBO and is the cheapsest as far as fuel goes. Haven't been to HPN in a whie, but it is easy to get into the city with a sedan or limo. Crew hotels are nice there, suggest the Marriott. The express train will take you to Grand Central any time during the day for about 15 bucks one way. Good Luck.

We switched to MMU because it is much easier to get in and out of. The drive should be too much concern if you are operating on a weekend. During the week you might end up with traffic.

Couldn't agree more. If TEB is bad, there all going to be bad.

If you've got a little bit of time (wether you go into TEB or EWR) you should try and stay at the Shearaton on the Hudson in Weehawken. Nice hotel, good food within walking distance, and a ferry stop right out front to take you into the city. Then free buses to shuttle you to times square. From there it's anything you can think of. Have fun. TEB is an experience everyone should have.

If you have a gate hold at TEB you will have a gate hold everywhere. The difference is when they lift the gate hold. Instead of being number 50 for take-off you might only be number 5.

This was our reason for switching out of TEB to MMU. Not to say that we have not had any delays, but it is not as extreme.

Looks like he's sold on KFRG.

But I managed to book into the Hilton New York for the weekend. Looking forward to it...

I would suggest TEB. But I would plan the trip as to avoid arriving on a sunday and departing on a friday. That's when the you know what highway is open, and everyone is departing over white intersection. everyone going to, coming from ack, hya, vineyard, etc. i'd try to come during the middle of the week to avoid delays!

Anyone who says LGA is on Crack! Never had any issues getting into TEB, getting out is the problem. FRG is a breez to get in and out of, but plan on spending a lot of time driving to and from town.

HPN without doubt the easiest to get in to and out of. None of TEB's ridiculous delays, as HPN doesn't have to slot their traffic with other airports, (TEB has EWR to worry about). Drive time to midtown NY is 35 - 60 minutes, depending on time of day. Avitat is the best FBO on the entire East Coast.

good choice by your boss in choosing FRG (use Atlantic)

here's my critique on the NY area airports in no particular order:

EWR: Although I personally haven't had it too bad, EWR always seems to be in delays. As someone mentioned earlier, it is definitely one of the worst airports in the country in terms of both arrival and departure delays (in GOOD weather). Oh yea, the only FBO is Signature...IMHO, that's enough to keep me away.

TEB: Closest to Manhattan (~ 8 nm by air). In no way is the airport not safe...that is completely ridiculous. The FBOs are very good and the controllers know what they are doing. Good hotels and restaurants nearby. It remains the most popular out of the other choices simply because of its proximity to NYC and many owners put up with the delays anyway.

MMU: Not a fan...only one ILS and only one FBO (Signature). Other than that, I guess MMU is OK.

LGA: IMHO, fun to fly in and out of...some of the best controllers in the world. LGA is also kinda rough with delays (rivals EWR) but is close to NYC. I can't remember ever having issues obtaining slots although dispatch takes care of that. FBO is pretty bad and inconvenient although not even close to as bad as that "GAT" at JFK.

HPN: Avitat, as someone mentioned, is definitely one of the best FBOs on the East Coast. The airport is generally easy to get in and out of although it can get busy at times. HPN is usually the last out of the NY area airports to be ground stopped. Drive time (to NYC) is reasonable and the nearby hotels are very nice.

FRG: Bout the same drive time as HPN, I recommend Atlantic Aviation as the FBO of choice. Usually not an issue with delays here.

Of course, when all else fails, look into ISP, SWF, and BDR.

Hope this helps anyone in the future.
