Hello guys

Was in AZ recently and very impressed with the area and people. Looks like a nice location to use as a work environment.
I was wandering if any of you knew any of the operations out there and like to share your experiences, that are worth going after for future employment. Looks like a busy field and lots of corporate activity. Light and heavy stuff. It looks very interesting and made me curious :).

Thank you

Good luck. Not many good jobs--especially for Gulfstream people.

Corporate Jets has a G550 on 135 but it WAS in Taiwan. You might check with them. Dial had a GV I believe but not sure. Phelps-Dodge just got rid of their GIV.

Good luck. TC

Sdl

SDL is a very immature airport when it comes to private jets 135 or 91. Relatively speaking, wealth is somewhat new to the Valley (unlike L.A. for instance) and SDL is in the very early stages of turning into a VNY or TEB. Most of the scraps in SDL are just that, scraps - old equipment operated by cheap or inexpereinced owners, hence all the lears and light jets. Most of the heavy stuff in SDL transient. You can count on one hand the heavy stuff that is actually a decent gig in SDL. Like most of aviation, 75% of SDL operators are scumbags with poor business practices and greed on their minds - operators and owners. If you could hack a few years of B.S. you can break into the handful of great gigs at SDL. The few goog gigs at SDL are great. The rest are near bottom-feeding deals.

If you can get the chief pilot at Corporate jets free green fees you got yourself a job.

I asked the older lady in CJ about the G550 gig a year or so ago. When she said Taipei, I kind of scoffed. She didn't appreciate that. (Maybe she didn't like me checking out the secretary with the tight white pants and green thong... )

If I'm going to move to Taipei (or anywhere else in Asia) it won't be for a 135 job... TC

I got my first part 91 jet job at SDL, and I definitely had to put up with a lot of BS for a couple years so I could move up to a better 91 job. Most jobs are in older lears or citations, and there is a lot of backstabbing and undercutting going on in the contract pilot group around there. I do some contract work out of SDL still and it seems like there is always some guy willing to drop his day rate by 1 or 2 hundred bucks "just this once". Probably the same as most other airports. There are also a lot of great guys that I've met and made some great connections through.

I have been in Scottsdale for about 2 years now and love the flying out here. It's VFR nearly every day and a cloudy day is even rare. I have yet to fly an instrument approach into Scottsdale. Scottsdale is still a little expensive for homes but the market soft so you can get a decent place for about 225K. Preflights in the 120 degree weather can get a little old, but in my opinion it is better than being cold.

The companies there all have their ups and downs...

Corproate Jets is begining to fall and has be sold to a company called Encore (I hope this is not still confidential). I am not sure what will happen to the flight department there. I'd avoid corporate jets if I were you. When I started there they had about 8+ airplanes and when I left they had maybe 3... I worked there just over a year. Poor management would be to blame in my opinion...

I have heard bad things about AeroJet and good things about Southwest Jet, but everyone will tell you a different story and this is only what I have heard.

There are a lot of good 91 jobs out there but it seems like they are hard to come by as AZ is a great place to live. I am fortunate to be with a great 91 gig out here in Scottsdale and have no planes to ever leave PHX!
