Kit Darby

Taken from the Enquirer article cited above:

"I figure I'll be lucky if I get back 25 to 33 percent of the value of my retirement," said Darby. "This is a really bad scenario - a catch-22 times 22. But I would rather have a smaller plan than not have a plan at all."

Violins, anyone?

To paraphrase Alfred E. Neumann of Mad magazine: "What?? Kit worry??"

With all the money he's fleeced from people by way of his contrived pilot shortage, the Pied Piper of same must have a sizeable nest egg built up to last him the rest of his life! And, what's stopping Kit from perpetuating the myth after retirement and fleecing more people?

I would not feel bad for Kit. Of course, the ordinary United pilots, F/As and other employees are the ones being hosed.

What if?

Suppose just for a second Kit got layed off.

Whose service would he use to find another job?

Can you picture Kit thumbing through Trade-a-Plane looking for a banner towing job?

I'm embarrased to admit that image makes me giggle like a little girl.

Kit could use the same "services" he peddles. It's only logical. As well as being president, he would also be a client! :p

During our strike we had an aviation job seminar hosted by Captain Darby. He pooh-poohed the recently signed DAL PWA because the United pension plan would pay out vastly more -- to the order of several million dollars over an average pilot's expected lifetime. My how have times changed.
