As you can tell from my avatar, I am a student at Purdue University, and I had my first Turbine Flight Ops flight last week in one of Purdue's two BE20s. Stepping up from Seminoles and Warriors, the King Air was a dream to fly and I definately was captured by the gee-whiz factor of a turbine airplane.

I'm curious what are typical minimums for a King Air PIC position(BE20 or BE90). Purdue is looking to hire another TFO pilot (at least they were), and their mins were 3000TT (I think), 2500 turbine PIC with ATP and MEI. These times seem on the high side to me, but I don't really have anything to compare them to.

Any info would be appreciated...just curious what kind of experience I should be shooting for if I decide I want to go this route.

2500 turbine PIC:eek: Wow, I havn't flown a King Air in a log time, but it defiently wasn't that high. Maybe 250 turbine PIC and 500 Multi PIC, don't know about the TT any more tho, maybe 2500.

I was just talking to a King Air pilot and he said that it isn't too high, so maybe it isn't, been a long time sence I've flown a King Air.

It'a all who you know. Minimums can be adjusted for anyone. I'm pushing 11,000 hours and am flying a BE-30. I'm furloughed from the majors, and unfortunately that maybe why the posted minimums are so high. There are alot of guys like me out there who are high timers and just are happy to be still flying. Good luck.

As a PU Alumn, I'll comment.

The requirement is for the evil underwriters. That'd be a great retirement gig. The guy that is in charge, I think, is a first class guy, and I know he wants the best person to fly and teach. I'd throw my name in the hat, but I don't have 500 dual given (lucky me)!!

They really don't want time-builders or transient people. They want folks to hang around.

They didn't say it, but I'll bet the sheepskin had better have PURDUE somewhere on it.

I got hired in 2002 at a 135 operator in CA into a new B200, single pilot, with 1300TT, 500multi (nearly all dual given) and zero turbine. We had no problem with insurance. We have about twelve planes so maybe the underwriters give us a break. I hardly ever fly the 200 anymore. I miss it! What a great plane...

maybe thats a wee high...

but think about it -- who is this PIC going to be flying with??? a warrior pilot...who may at times be more of a nuisance than a help. (a well motivated nusiance - but still)

they probably just want a pretty strong PIC who can teach and babysit as well. - someone who can let you fly and watch whats going on - so you get something out of it.

also consider the market - they will find higher time guys...a few years ago they probably couldn't fill the position - but now its no prob!!

We operate a Beechjet 400A and a King Air 200. Our King Air minimums are as follows:

-PIC needs: 2,500 TT-PIC, including 1500 ME, 500 Turbine, 50 hrs in Type and school within the past 12 months.

-SIC needs: 1,000 TT-PIC, including 500 ME.

As has been said in previous posts, these mins can be adjusted. They are the guidelines set forth by our insurance company. For PIC, school within the past 12 months is their primary concern.

I got hired in 2003 at a 91/135 operator in CO into a B200, as SIC, with 250TT and zero turbine. We had no problem with insurance.

By the way, For PIC and SIC, school within the past 12 months is their primary concern, at our company.

HMR,

The B200 is indeed a great plane!

g'day

I agree with Flyingdutchman with the exception that school is required for our PIC's.

The minimums I listed above are the guidelines for contract employees. They can be waived for full-time employees.

I moved into the King Air with 1100TT, 300Multi. I just got releases as PIC I have 1500 hrs and 400 Turbine, only 150 of which was in the King Air. Great Plane never had a problem.

I'll be jumping into a C90B with 400TT and 0 turbine (Part 135). Insurance only cares that I go through Sim Training. They will not accept in-house, aircraft training. It all has to do with how the insurance is setup. We don't list individual pilots, just that the D.O. must approve all insured pilots, and sim training is completed every 12 months.

Yeah our company is the same way with the training on both our Hawkers and King Airs. Insurance.

To all,

Thanks for the replies. I need to try to get me one of those cherry King Air jobs some of you guys have talked about getting with (relatively) low time! I only have 2.2 in the B200, but it lived up to every ounce of praise our King Air ground instructor threw at it. I would LOVE to strap one of these things on as a job.

Also, FYI, according to some people above my pay grade, Purdue is NOT actively seeking another TFO pilot. Despite this fact, the posting is still on the Aviation Technology webpage. Go figure....

If you want to hear high....

PIC mins for our 200 pt 91:
5000tt/ 3000 multi/ 1000 turbine/ 100 in type/ & of course school.
It may be because our liability is so high.

Limeyflyer who is your insurance carrier?

I know this is a little off topic ...

... but the economist in me can't help but think it's a healthy thing for insurance companies to be setting pilot minimums. I mean, these guys have a real financial incentive to discover what makes safe pilots and set the experience and training requirements accordingly. And if the customer can find another company with less stringent requirements for less money - the free market at it's best, IMHO. As opposed to the FAA, which has the bureaucrats and lawyers pull some numbers out of their a$$, to show off for whichever idiots they're trying to please that day - anyway, just my $.02

I should have stated it is still First Officer PIC time in the KA. I still don't have my name on the paperwork yet but I do get to bounce the guys in the back around. Captain upgrade for the KA comes with about 2000TT and 500 in the KA
