Is there a situation where King Air 350 SIC time is loggable?
I know the airplane requires a type rating, but I've heard that it is certified for single pilot ops. Thanks
Do a search on the subject and you'll find lots of threads.
Bottom line is: You can only log it if the autopilot is broken, AND you have the training and sign off as set forth in FAR 61.58 (SIC Requirement.) Or, the PIC has a type rating that says "SIC REQUIRED" AND you have the SIC training and sign off. I'm not sure about that far number, but it's close.
I tell my FOs to log it in a separate collum. Explain to whomever asks that it is to show that you spent time acting as a crewmember, but that you know it is not legal for FAA purposes. ie; getting a certificate or rating...
I have been told that if the PIC has an ATP and a Type rating, that pilot can instruct only in the King Air 350 (or whatever they are typed in). The SIC for say can log it as dual given. I do not know what reg this falls under, but many people have told me this!
i'm not quite sure about this but i heard something to the nature of, if the jupseat is installed then you need an SIC because it bumps it up to 10 seats?
91.531 (3) A comuter Category airplane, except that a person may operate notwithstanding (a)(1) of this section, that has a passenger seating configuration, excluding pilot seats, of nin or less without a pilot designated SIC.....yada yada yada
so i'm not sure if installing the jump seat counts as a pilot seat or not, if not i would think the aircraft, since the 350 is a comuter category aircraft now requires an SIC according to the above reg. since it has more than nine seats
If the King Air 350 is being operated under FAR 135, the operation specifications may require the use of a SIC, unless certain A/C and or PIC requirements are met.
I was told as I went through 350 type school a few months ago that if the aircraft has the ability for the 2 extra seats, ie. seat tracks (the seats do not necessarily have to be installed), then the aircraft is no longer a single pilot airplane, regardless if you have a sinle pilot endorsement on the type.
As far as being typed and an ATP and acting as an instructor, the way I read that reg you have to be at an air carrier to exercise that.
You would think in today's world where insurance runs all corporate flight department minimums, if the insurance required 2 pilots the you should be able to log it as such. Just a thought.
