Kentucky governor was almost shot down

The King Air carrying the Kentucky governor into DCA for Reagan's funeral was close to being shot down, and now the government is wondering if the ADIZ needs to be bigger.

Moral of the story: If your transponder quits enroute, don't continue into the ADIZ, even if you're talking to Approach. I wouldn't bet my life on inter-agency communication, which appears to be lacking.
