Just wondering if there are any not too expensive commuter friendly hotels around DCA with a hotel shuttle to and from the airport. if anyone has any ideas please share. thank you.

(sorry if this isnt in the hotel section, but i figured it would get read here more.)

the Americana is about it for consistant "low" cost crew hotel.

Sometimes some of the others (big chain hotels) in Crystal City will give you a crew deal but it depends on the bookings and time of year. April thru Sept/oct is not the good time of year as far as deals go. All the hotels are full of summer DC visitors paying around 200/night so the hotel doesn't want to bargin with crews.

even this time of year the Americana can be a bitch to get a room (around 50 or 60 out the door for a crew) because they can sell the same room for 150 to Joe tourist.

Good Luck and book early.

when no van service:

from the KDCA - take the metro to the crystal city stop (first stop from airport going north, $1.35) walk out of metro and turn right onto 18th street (walkinf westish away from the airport) walk under the underpass and you'll come to 18th and Eads St. (across the street will be a post office). Turn Right onto Eads and walk just over 3 block (north) and you'll see the Americana. If you walk too far on eads you'll run into the Pentagon (turn around here).

There are plenty of pads available in Crystal City for 185-225/mo that are one Metro stop or a 15 minute walk away from the airport...so with the top-quality commutable schedules ATW is building us these days you might be better off financially with a pad.

Also heard a lot of folks Priceline hotels and can get good ones (Marriott and Hilton family) for 60-80/night.
