perhaps it was an explosion of the center wing fuel tank (CWT), resulting from ignition of the inflammable fuel/air mixture in the tank.(TWA 800)

some speculation of center tank boost pump problems!

There were three (i think) previous explosions of KC-135s. 2 in flight, and one on the ground. They don't know the cause in any of them. Suspect CWT boost pumps.

The official report is not out yet, but there have been indications in the tanker community on what the cause was and it was nothing mentioned above. Contrary to reports, it did not explode. The cause is being VERY quietly discussed in the 135 community to raise some awareness of the occurance (rightfully so). But the lid has been very tight elsewhere. We should all know in a month or so would be my guess.
