Premiliminary reports are coming in from the Belgians that the B747-200 that went off the end of the runway. The aircraft experienced a compressor stall at or near V1. The Captain then elected to reject the TO but was unable to successfully stop the aircraft and consequently ended up off the end. So far no dual engine failures, mechanical failures or structural failures or have been determined to be likely contributing factors in this accident. According the Belgians, that is....

The accident investigation is being conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Unit (Belgium). The NTSB has assigned an Accredited Representative to assist the investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13 as the State of Manufacture and Design of the airframe and powerplants, the State of Registry, and State of the Operator. The US Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, and Kalitta Air have been designated as technical advisors to the US Accredited Representative.
