Just wanted to say Thank You.....

Yesterday, my next door neighbor left for the middle east for his deployment and it started me thinking. So many times I have read posts on flight info from people who have served in the military or who are currently serving their country. I just wanted to say thank you for your sacrifice.

Many times I feel that maybe we assume our freedoms are a God given right. Many, MANY people have paid for my freedoms with their lives of which there is no greater gift. Childred are seperated from their parents and parents are seperated from their children. Yet, they go. Most times it is far away and for a great legnth of time. I just want you to know that it has not gone unnoticed.

Because of men and women like yourselves, I sleep better in knowing that there is someone watching out for me. I have the freedom to express my opinion and enjoy this country and ALL that it has to offer.

Traveling to 3rd world countries really opened my eyes to how **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** lucky we are to live in a country where we have so many liberties. Those liberties would be taken from us if we did not have a military to protect them. It's a huge sacrafice to be a soldier away from family and loved ones and so I thank you too.

This Thursday will mark the beginning of the third week that my brother has not had to spend in a war zone. He spent the last year with the 101st in Iraq, mostly in Tikrit, as a UH-60 Crew Chief, and had at least 2 close calls in which he should not have returned. One of these involved the downing of the Blackhawk with the top JAG Army officer on board.

I just want to thank the crews at DAL who took him over there, but most importantly, brought him back home safely. From what I understand, these crews operate on a voluntary basis (yes, they get paid), which I think is great. If ever given the opportunity to do so, I'd volunteer in a heartbeat.

General and FDJ2, if you know anyone who has done this, tell them that they are appreciated.

What's going to be really funny about the gratitude of citizens, is when I have to panhandle on the streets sometime in the unforseeable future should my medical get 'jacked due to Lukemia or some other radioactive related sickness because of time I spent working in and around atomic bomb craters, nuclear bomb testing debris, fallout contaminated islands and I'll be too old and medically unemployable to do anything else.

Then it will be just like it was a decade after the Nam Vets came home...

I'll be standing out on the street corner, cup in hand and standing next to a sign that reads "Atomic Veteran...will work for chemotherapy"

...and citizens will be driving by, honking the horn and yelling out the window..."Get a job you loser!"

And by the way, I do find it a little ironic that the navy sent me a letter after my discharge informing me that my medical records were lost. Just a little bit on the coincidental side for me.

Being at the age at where I can enlist.. I would like to thank the men and women in uniform. whether it be police, ems, fire, or military, they are the greatest we could ask for. They should be making millions, not thousands.

It's better now. I can remember late 60's, early 70's, got ugly when you wore a uniform to a major city.

I also remember about 3 years ago, in AZO there was a dedication to a veterans memorial, I wore my hat. it's the only thing that still fits. Got saluted by regular army guys. Makes you feel good.

I feel bad for those in uniform today, life is tough, but a soldier's life is never easy. And I don't just mean army people, anyone who puts on a uniform, ready to defend this country. The current Presidential stuff, Kerry, is a disgrace to those who fight and die for this country. Just my $.02.

Disregard that. Anyone who runs for President, or is President, should do their utmost to represent those in uniform. Because besides being President, that person is alos COMMANDER IN CHEIF of the armed forces.
