Just Recieved the Netjets Application!!

Hey ALL!!

The application arrived today. Very thorough application.

I am hoping for CMH as domicile. Is this a good or bad request?? I am currently in the western PA area and CMH would be perfect.

What you guys think about this?? Do you think that CMH is already full?

It's hard to say what domicile they're hiring into when. I haven't heard of a logical system for deciding. For all I know, it's the flavor of the month club. I can see how much easier CMH would be for you, though, so I wish you luck.

All domililes are available. The company hasn't closed any, YET.

Though not technically "closed", if 3 of the 5 are not offered at the time of the interview, for all intents and purposes, to that pilot, only 2 were "open". The company may be honoring the contract by the letter of the law, but I don't think they're following it in spirit. Ask those pilots who've been waiting for DAL to be offered just how open or closed they perceive that domicile to be.

I would probably accept any domicile except TEB. CMH would be perfect however. The others would involve the sale of house and other problems.

From what I've heard from recent applicants, there is a form that gets sent prior to the interview asking you to specify your domicile preference(s). It sounds like that form may be used as a filter to determine when people get interviewed, in that if they are interviewing for LAX or CMH, they will only interview pilots willing to accept that domicile assignment.

If you've got questions about CMH, feel free to PM me. And I agree with the suggestion that CMH will never fill up. I think I heard that there are around 325 pilots using CMH as their domicile, out of about 2440 total pilots.

I interviewed in early December and was offered the Citation X to Teterboro. The commute from BWI was do-able but I wasn't crazy about having to drive that far (and moving is not an option). I asked Linda if I could holdoff until I was furloughed later in the spring and she said that was fine.

I called Linda back this past Friday to see if anything was available in TEB and she said they were only hiring into CMH and LAX (and possibly PBI) for the remainder of the year. I asked her to withdraw my name from consideration until the domicile issue improves or goes back to homebasing.

I was truly impressed by everything I saw at the interview and I think it would have been a nice place to work...had it not been for the domiciles.

Still unemployed, I guess.

PG, I think it was a good move to let them know exactly why you were declining at this time. Consumers do have the power to affect change when enough of them express displeasure in the product being offered. Perhaps when the company has been turned down over and over by qualified pilots that they wanted to hire, they'll get the message that the domicile debacle is counterproductive.

I'm sorry for you, and the others pilots that post here, that the list of 5 has been further reduced. I know a number of pilots have been waiting for DAL. It is completely understandable that a pilot will look unfavorably on employment requirements that force drastic lifestyle changes for inadequate compensation. It is even more galling when the same company gives its other pilots (over 2000 at NJA, plus NJI) the choice that it denies to the new hire.

Questions for the NJ domicile pilots--how often, percentage wise, are you flying the NJ plane in and out of your domicile? How often do you airline to meet the plane elsewhere? And how many of your tours end at another city, requiring you to be airlined back to your domicile? Guitar Guy can give us a report on CMH, but it'd be most informative if we knew how the system was working at all 5 domiciles.

NJW and other 1108 members - isn't there a provision in the contract to open discussions to get things changed in the current contract? What could be traded for the basing issue? Or is it just not worth it? I'm guessing that this was a big topic when reaching the TA in Nov. But then again - everyone on board then got HBA and the 5 domicile disaster only affected the new guys.

I might have just answered my own question - but please chime in if anyone has any additional info to add.

I think you did answer your own question, Baja. There is nothing that the HBA/grandfathered pilots are willing to "give up" for HBA for new hires. That shouldn't be seen as harsh or throwing a newbie under the bus, just a reality. The only-5-domiciles idea was the company's brainstorm, so why should the pilot group give up anything to fix a problem the company created?

The best way to solve the domicile issue is for the pool of applicants and new-hires to dry up. Once that happens, the company will have to do something to attract pilots, which may likely be HBA for everyone. But until the company decides to do that, the current status quo will continue, whether one likes it or not.

And you are correct in guessing that this issue was a concern during TA ratifcation. A lot of people did feel it was a big issue but at the same time, a lot of people felt it was an area that would ultimately come back to bite the company. We shall see.

Unfortunately, I believe this statement is right on the money.

For myself, if SFO had been one of the five domiciles offered instead of LAX, I would have never applied to NJA. It just wouldn't have been workable for me. With the company currently offering only 2 of the 5 listed domiciles (LAX and CMH), I would have thought that the pool of interested/qualified applicants would have been drying up by now....but evidentely the company is still having no problem filling interview slots. I guess time will tell if this domicile system will survive or not.

Finished indoc last week, and start X school on June 1st. Upon completion of X school, we were told that we could possibly be sitting at home anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. We'll be on the Crackberry leash though, and could get called to return to Columbus for company aircraft training anytime during that wait period. After the company aircraft training is complete, we will be released to IOE....same Crackberry leash rules apply.

BTW, Crackberry = company issued Blackberry communications device....also referred to as the "hockey puck." Nice piece of gear.

I think I would really enjoy working for NetJets. My application package has been gathering dust since HBA went away and will not be dusted off until it comes back or they expand bases to my region. My wife's work situation requires her to stay put for at least another year so she can vest in her retirement plan.

So funny! Getting back into the flying game has been fun. It's especially fun getting into an FBO and being able to tell who the NJA guys are - NOT the ones with the yellow ties, but the ones glued to their Crackberry's!
