Jury Duty

So I have to go to Jury Duty tomorrow morning (today).
Anyone cae to share experiences, what to expect?

I have to agree thats pretty good advice (and got a good laugh out of me when I read it!)

I don't have any advice myself, cause I've never gone when called up for it. I blow it off, and as far as I'm concerned I never received the notice in the mail. And dont any of you hata's start in on civic duty. Blah, blah, blah....

It's not that bad really. I kind of enjoyed it. I actually got selected, but the trial ended abruptly on the second day due to some technicalities. I was a little bummed actually. There are easy ways to get yourself the boot of course, but you may find it interesting too.

Holy crap, I can't believe there are this many people who are awake and logged into Flightinfo at this time of night. I don't feel like such a nerd now (okay, I still feel like a nerd, but at least I have company).

Oh yeah, you are innocent until proven guilty.

Nope, they typically won't have your phone number anyways. They just get your name and mailing address from the Assessor's office (?) and that's how you get selected within the county that you live.

Besides, if they did actually call - again, I never received anything like that in the mail! My wife or kid must've thrown it out before I saw it.

I wouldn't sweat it if I were you, of course I don't want to tell you that then the cops haul you in next time they stop you too.

They always talk big about "you MUST go to jury duty OR ELSE..." however, they'll never follow through with it, nor do they typically have the capacity to even if they wanted to.

Charge into the courtroom hollering, "hang the guilty ba$tard from the yardarm". Actually getting out of JD without looking like you are just trying to get out of JD is very very difficult. And if you screw up the attempt you could get contempt (and spend time in a cell yourself!).
Do they chase people who blow it off? It depends on where you are, what the judge's experience with it is.. if you get one that is sick and tired of fuqu-ups missing JD then you might find yourself doin some 'splainin in front of him with hat in hand.
Is it Grand Jury (pretty quick usually) or Petit jury (you sit through a whole trial)? Local or Federal?
Some of us had Hangman's remorse when we locked a guy away. Well for about 15 minutes. But it does hit you that you are responsible for taking away someone's freedom. It can be very stressful, quite emotional for jurors, something I didn't realize.

I am one of the few who loved jury duty. Actually sat on a jury couple of years ago. Enjoyed every second of it. Can't wait to get summoned again.
