I was told if I want to JS from CLT to SXM (St. Martin) I'll be subject to about $50 in fees with US Airways. Should I go ahead and list myself via the US Airways website "The hub", or, as a pilot can i get this done without any taxes or fees involved by showing up at the gate like I would a domestic flight?

Thanks

Jumpseating to SXM you still have to pay the taxes just as if you were riding on passes. I've done both, and my advice is to ride on a pass. You have a higher boarding priority and you don't have to follow the "jumpseat rules"....example....you can ride in coach in jeans and drink. The only plus about jumpseating on Airways is that if the crew is nice they might, MIGHT, "invite" you into first class without having to pay the $20 upgrade fee as a nonrev would have to. But what it first class really without being able to drink the free booze??? Taxes to SXM are 18.75 round trip with a $30 departure fee from SXM, so 48.75 total in taxes. Unfortuneatly contrary to popular belief, us pilots don't escape the international taxes when "jumpseating". Hope this helps....enjoy SXM....the sunset beach bar rocks! $2 beers, topless beach, and airplanes. Pilot heaven...PM me if you want more info -

I'm not sure how it works with the US Air system however it is uncommon to pay to ARRIVE in SXM. I was just there last month and paid about 36-40$ to LEAVE SXM. But there were no taxes to arrive. We went from Ewr-SJU-SXM. This included a ID90 on Eagle to get onto the island.

When traveling international, whether jumpseating or nonreving using passes, you always leave the country for free, no taxes. However, you always pay taxes returning to the good ol' US of A. This is why you pay nothing to get down there, or anywhere for that matter. Hope this clears things up a bit...
