I am planning on trying to JS to MSP Thurs morning from BHM. Last year when I did this, some agents said I should have called to reserve the JS, others said that was not the case. I am not connected to NWA, just ALPA with reciprical JS agreement. Any thoughts from those in the know?

Thanks in advance.

You can't reserve it. First come, first served.

As far as I understand it (and I could be wrong), only the pilots flying for the actual carrier or the FAA can reserve the jumpseat on Mesaba, Pinnacle, or Northwest. Off-line pilots can't reserve it at all.

Good luck with your trip!

Well that's what I thought Mel, but I had a couple of gate agents ask why I hadn't reserved the JS last year. Thanks again. It'll be a great trip especially if we bag a few pheasants.

Welcome

Anyone on the list is welcome on our jumpseat......don't worry about gate agents.....we'll make sure you get on. And Mel.........you are truly a class act! Thanks for the tribute, we are all thankful for it!

According to the higher-ups at XJ, we can never list on any jumpseat other than our own. Technically, the JS is first come, first served. As a hub to hub commuter myself, I list myself as a 5W (redtail flyer standby on another redtail) and get to the gate early and ask if the jumpseat is available and then they switch it to 9E (jumpseat) whether or not I use the physical cockpit jumpseat. I've been reamed by gate agents (that look much like Mel's avatar) when they see that I'm listed as a 9E.

Cheers

PS - Mel, you are 1 of 3 people I actually have respect for on this board after reading it for over 6 years. If you don't mind, I like your signature enough to copy it. Thanks!

Reserve versus "list"...

You can list as a non-rev, and that is usually what the gate agents want. You have to remember most are really lazy and would rather change a persons listing class over do a new record.

You can call and list as a non-rev, then when you arrive at the gate you just ask for a J/S form and let them know you are listed.

The 800 number cannot list you as a 9H (offline J/S) or as an online J/S. They can though, list you as a non rev with a comment in the record that you "may" be using the J/S. You will still follow the general rules of first come, first serve and priority for the J/S.

Don't be surprised if that even when you list as a non-rev the gate agents will still complain about something, that is what they do best.
