jumpseat question for SWA guys

Does southwest still allow ameriflight pilots to jumpseat (ride in the cabin)? I have gratefully used this privilege several times, but heard about a month ago that this was no longer allowed. I have called the non-rev reservations number and the customer relations number and nobody is sure. Is this truth or just rumor?

I do not have my FOM with me. I called SEA Ops and they looked on the computer. This should be the current list. Ameriflight IS still listed.

I think they are still listed. It's a bit of Catch 22 though. I think by FAA rules you are supposed to sit up front but you can't under the new rules. I thought I had heard that the Cockpit Access Security System (CASS) would allow FAA Controllers on. CASS has been delayed and I think it might be up and running through ARINC now. Now the airlines have to get their system up and running. SWA says maybe by this Fall.

well i know the FAA canned the FAM Program and I hope to god NATCA is fighting to get it back up and running.

What exactly do you mean they canned the program? I know several FAMs, and haven't heard anything like this from them. All I've heard from them is that they are no longer hiring(and haven't been for some time).

What he means is the Familiarization program not the Federal Air Marshals.

the fam program is the familiarazation program, FAA controllers ride up front with the pilots to see there point of view.

Ah, ok...thanks...being a corporate/fractional pilot, the only FAM I am familiar with is the Marshals program...thanks...glad to hear there was no interruption to that program. I disagree with many policies of the program(such as the notification BS, which applies to any federal agent), but it is definitely a good and necessary program.
