anyone know or want to comment?

I was told my someone that the jumpseat in larger commercial aircraft , airbus, boeing products, etc.. the jumpseat weight is already in the basic operating weight. is that correct, that would make sense since i have seen situations where weight restricted aircraft still have a jumpseater.... anyone know for sure what the deal... and if thats the case is the crj/erj the same way?

thanks

On our regional, the CRJ 200/700 and EMB 120, the jumpseater is NOT figured into the BOW.
Usually, the CRJ 200 and EMB 120 have problems with a jumpseater on full flights.
On the CRJ 700, a jumpseater is rarely a problem.

jumpseaters are not in the bow in the erj either. on -er and -ep models a full flight can be problematic for a jumpseater.

Was trying to J/S home out of DCA a couple weeks ago on a NWA DC-9. they had to bump off 15 pax including me due to weight and the short/contaminated runways. I asked the BOW question to the capt. and he said "as of today j/s is not in the BOW, but we are trying to get it into the next contract" WTF? I didn't think you could "negotiate" for a BOW weight!?!?!

I was bumped off a Delta MD-88 JS once due to balance... not weight. Walked over to AA and got a first class seat 45 min later. I think it worked out for the better.

They are not included in the Saab either... Granted, we can't take much of anything these days, let alone (typo) a jumpseater...

I heard this rumor before too, but it was only for widebodies. I have asked several pilots of widebodies and have not got a confirmation anywhere. If it is true, I would think it varies airline to airline, depending on what the feds approve. But I would think that if the airline could load another 180-200 lbs of freight out of S. America or Asia by kicking off a jumpseater then they would do it.

If the weight is REALLY close it helps because a person in the jumpseat weighs less than a normal pax.

It is not only on widebodies that the jump is part of the BOW. It can really be in any aircraft including the RJs. It depends on who "owns" the jump seat. If the seat belongs to managment then it is rarely included in the BOW. If the seat is the pilot groups then chances are it will be included. So, something to work on the next time your contract rolls around.

Not On....

NOT ON BOEINGS, AIRBUS OR DC8'S, WE HAVE TO ADD 220 LBS PER J/S!

I'm pretty sure that the jumpseat/s are included in the BOW on widebody aircraft due to augmented crews. All crewmembers occupy the jumpseat for take off and landing. I had a USAirways (east) Captain tell me years ago that on all their aircraft that the jumpseat was part of the BOW so no jumpseaters could be bumped for weight.

United negotiated it into one of their prior contracts that whenever a a/c went in for heavy MX a second JS would be installed.
