I've got several days off in the beginning of May and was thinking of going to HI. Whats the best way there? Who and where are the least crowded flights. I'm thinking of heading to ORD the out on UAL or from MSP in NWA. What about going to the west coast, is that better in order to get to HI.

I wish we could get the fedex/ups js, that used to be the easiest and best ride in my opinion.

Thanks

I jumpseated over to Maui in Jan. Seemed like there was alot of flts out of LAX. I took UAL over to HI in the morning and AA back at night time 9 days later. There were seats available in the back on both. Got the first jumpseat on both with no problems. Just have a list of the flts going out of LAX and be ready to run from one terminal to another just in case one falls through. AA, UAL, Delta, HAL, and ATA had stuff going all day about every hour and a half between them all.

Out of LAX, there's a flight just about every hour on various carriers bound for Hawaii. If for some reason you can't get on a flight bound for your island, try a neighboring island and catch an interisland flight to wherever you're going...

Have a good trip!

Don't forget Omni.

I live in LAS and have flown with them as well. Realize they won't release seats on their charter flights, but will take any number of jumpseaters for seats open in the back on regular scheduled flights. No first class, but I got a seat with no one next to me. I'd definitely plan on bringing your own lunch. Their flight attendants were super nice as well.

I've used Hawaiian and just loved the treatment. They gave me a row to myself no less. Of course, Wayne Newton and his entourage had the bulk of the "nice seats". No need to bring your own lunch here, but I did anyway just in case. Gave my lunch to the crew and they were pretty suprised. Also, did I mention how great they treated me? Even other crew members commuting to HI for work came up to me in the gate area to talk to me.

Happy landings

I'm going to Hawaii for a week starting on the 10th. The loads on ATA look pretty good for the month, though going through LA seemed the tightest. SFO has two flights a day (1045 and 1849) to HNL and one to Maui OGG (0800). Those loads looked the best for the week I'm going. We also go to HNL from SEA now, with one flight at 1715.

All in all, a good time of year to non-rev to Hawaii. Surfs starting to come op on the south facing beaches, too. See you at Queens.

linky to ATA's pdf schedule

One other thing I forgot to mention... you could try Aloha out of Oakland. Starting in July we'll have 5 flights a day to Hawaii out of there. Right now, it's 3, all within an hour of each other.

Our flights out of SoCal are generally pretty full, so you're better off trying someone else out of LAX. Out of SNA, your best bet is Kona flight which always has some room.

Just some other suggestions....

Hey Freight Dog, do you know if there is a schedule increase for July between SNA and HNL?
