Type Rating

The flight check for a type rating is the same for a private pilot or an ATP. Granted the VFR type rating is kind of silly, but his G2 type is solid, same as any ATP would have to pass.

According to his web site, he got his private in 1974 (same as I did), and has a total of 5000 hours. Sounds pretty solid to me.

Boy you guys are sure in awe about celebs in aviation. Give me a friggin break! Everyone wants to say how great of a pilot he is because of his attending recurrent training like every other pilot. Come on, we all know how easy those checkrides can be at FSI and Simuflite.

I still say, if you claim to be a professional aviator and claiming to be a Captain of a 707, you should be appropriately rated. TRAVOLTA IS NOT!! This shows his true arrogance.

Argue this one boys.......don't get confused will all the smoke and mirrors.

saw travolta on Letterman years ago and he said he once was an "american airlines" pilot.

I'm sure he has better things to do on Christmas day than defend himself before a bunch of jealous pilots on the internet :P

Like if I was him I'd be flying *my* 707 today ;)

You guys can go ahead and ban me now, cause I know you don't have the sack to let both sides speak.

He said on Oprah he was a jet pilot "7 times over"

#1: John is a Scientologist, therefore, he does not believe in Christmas. He is probably celebrating the birth of his inner self, or something along those lines.

#2: If you were Travolta, I guess you would probably change your avatar to a picture of the N Number, wouldn't you??

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!

i'm surprised travolta isn't broke yet. between the luxurious gulfstream, the gas guzzling 707, and the f*cking money hungry scientologists...that's a triple threat. watch your bank acct john. and don't leave your pin number laying around the 'church.'

haha. greedy little b*tches.

HA! It was actually talked about on here a couple years ago after it happened.

I forgot about the scientologist thing. In that case I would definitely be out flying my 707 today rather than defending myself to you guys ;)

And I suppose I would if the airplane was as dear to my heart as N1992E is :)

There are other N numbers it could be I guess. N299JS was the first airplane I ever rode in... I was 3 and my grandfather owned her, he's gone now, I miss him, the plane is still around... in another man's arms, sad, but you have to let go. I got a picture of her for Christmas too... I guess a change of avatar is in order? Soon as I can get it scanned. ;)

N3151E is a 172. I did most of my pre solo training in it... until a warrior took it out :P N9668Q is the 172 I soloed in, I'll never forget it either ;) But for some reason none will ever be as dear to me as 92E... My first time with my left hand on the yoke, right hand on the throttle and my feet on the pedals, and she's never treated me poorly.

So I've rambled a little... what was your point again?

Of course, I never look at the pictures, I only read it for the articles.

I guess I'm not the only one who drinks beer and watches Discover Wings and The History Channel on my day off!

I saw that episode. It was halarious...

Dennis: "OK, lets do the taxi check"
Babysitter: "Lets start the engines first"

He even looked hungover when he showed up, sporting a starbucks. It was quite funny.

Good actor though.
You hit the nail there bro. I saw it as well. He did say a few more "off the wall" comments.
John T. is a strange bird, ask the guys at TXKF. Very strange requests'.

I'm certain the admin will pull this one too, but I'll let others know that the site admin may not condone racism, but they are certainly biased toward its redneck cracker posters...
Go back to slobbin' some Hollywood knob.
You're using that "C" word a little too much. (Cracker.) I was called a cracker many a times as a kid. Why don't you stow it pilot guy. I was out-numbered by some non-crackers and got my a$$ beat. Only until I was taught not to punch them in the head did I understand. Oh, and the a$$ beating, well I did prevail.:)

So, it's ok for him to talk smack about African Americans? Stick it up your a$$...

PG,

I suspect that you're not far into your career at this point, because your attitude won't provide you much lattitude in employment options. Gender and race not withstanding.

Like many, I can say that I share a hyphenated multinational and cultural heritage, with my immediate family from a foriegn land. However, I'm a citizen here, in the United States. I don't consider myself, nor refer to myself as a XXX-american. Just a citizen.

I have no idea what "smack" is; I'm guessing it involves illegal narcotic or hallucinigenic substances, but can't really say.

What I can say is that I certainly don't worry if someone disparages my background or heritage, or those that hail from it. To worry to excess might indicate some level of insincurity. Are you not comfortable with your heritage? Race? Gender? What?

I've noted a sincere threat herein from others. Celebrities, certain races or colors, etc. Why is that? I sense anger. What angers you so much you attack everyone? Is there no drive or purpose in you that inspires you to contribute to the forum, rather than attack others in it?

I'm here. Attack me. You know you want to.

Can we get back to bashing travolta?

What was the whole deal with him and Qantas?

His plane, N707JT, was originally delivered to Qantas back in 1964 or whatever.

Thats his "deal" with them. So I believe they paid to have him get his 744 type, paint his plane and for some other operating costs and he flew some world "tour" for friendship, peace and a lot of other crap and got to wear a uniform and all sorts of good stuff.

he coulda saved a lot of money. if he just paid me half of that, i woulda let him borrow my uniform to fly around in...

Rather you agree or not, bottom line is he has earned the ratings and is a "jet" pilot. Only thing showing on this thread is jealousy.
Let him keep promoting general/corporate aviation, it can only help us all.

Is it jealousy or is it an annoyance? That's like me appearing in some movies as an extra then tell everyone in the crew lounge i'm a movie star.

Audiences may know that John Travolta played an Air Force major piloting a Stealth Bomber in BROKEN ARROW , that he narrated a 50th Anniversary documentary on The Blue Angels and named his son Jett. But many may not know that he is a licensed jet pilot with a life long passion for aviation. Since earning his wings in 1974, John has logged close to an astounding 5,000 flying hours.

"Every cent of my first paychecks went to flying lessons," recalls Travolta, who has trained in cockpits as diverse as his acting roles. They include qualifying as a captain in the Gulfstream II, Lear 24, hawker 1A, Citation 1 and 2, Tebuan and Vampire Jet. He has qualified as first officer in the Boeing 707. Travolta keeps his skill up-to-date through continual refresher courses, training at American Airlines, Pan Am, SimuFlite an other institutions.

http://www.travolta.com/image/Untitled-4.gifTravolta first became enamored of aviation as a child, at the same time he developed a love of acting. His mother and sisters were stage performers and he regularly saw them off at the airport. He observed the flight paths of the nearest airports, read books on aviation, and took special interest in Constellations, DC-6s and DC-7s. Attesting to his early charisma, he persuaded the girls in his neighborhood to don their Brownie uniforms to play flight attendants as he "captained" his backyard airliner.

"I find flying extroverting -- it puts your attention outside yourself -- you're responsible for a machine that is going through the air at 600mph. The sensation is thrilling and there is a beauty and an art to it." says Travolta.

The actor is accompanied by two other captains, flight attendants and an engineer on his own transoceanic flights.

While John Travolta doesn't appear to be limiting his film career in any way, he has often said he would like become involved with a major airline in some way. That goal was realized in 2002, when he participated in the Qantas "Spirit of Friendship" tour, piloting his own Boeing 707 on a thirteen city, 35,000 mile tour. He continues as Ambassador-at-Large for the Australia based Qantas.

I always pictured you as a fried chicken chomping....two handed bbq eating.....beer chugging....all american mid-westerner. :) I don't know why. So what is your heritage?
