Hi Everyone,

Coming from Canada and I was wondering how good / bad / ugly the industry is at the moment in the US, California in particular.
Are there any jobs out there for low-timers like myself? Or would getting your CFI be the better route to go?

If you have to ask about the pilot job market down here you should really invest in a TV, newspaper, magazine, ISP, etc.....
NO offense Sir, but you get DUMB A$$ QUESTION OF THE DAY award...

ya know, eh??

really....there are lots of guys with 10X your hours looking for any work they can get, stay in Canada.......

Jobs

From what I've seen and read, you're probably better off there than here. Really. I understand that there are some opportunities up your way for low-timers that can work into something.

Good luck with your job search.

Always nice to see such an educated, civilized reply.

I was more thinking along the lines of the jobs advertised down here:

http://www.aerialmessages.com/

As for Canada, most people venture up north ( and I mean north, degrees true ) working their butts off for 2 years on the ramp in sub-zero conditions to get a shot at a right seat.

Maybe you should head up north, I'm sure they can use a pair of extra hands...

Eh!

Certainly anyone with 250 hours cannot possibly be as inteligent as someone with 5000 hours. And someone with 10 hours - must be a complete idiot.

The US has finally opened it's borders with Canada; please join us and may the best man win.

The industry is bad here in the US, stay in Canada. American jobs are for American citizens.
Thank You!

Brother, I hadn't even seen this one.. This board is full of nice people..

Who said I wasn't an american citizen?

If you an American citizen then your more than welcome to go for whatever job you would like. If not an American citizen, please stay in Canada and go herd moose.

I used to work for a Canadian company posing as a United States company. That is until they sold it out from underneath us and headed back home. So I worked with a bunch of Canadians. It's just part of the Canadian Invasion Plan they all talk about.

Get used to Rush, Gordon Lightfoot, Loonies, and a 2-four of Molson.

I'm humbled by your command of the English language..

Thank You! I really was an English major, well actually Pre Law if you want to be specific. I changed my major the last yr and got an aviation mang.degree. The only thing that matters though is I have that box checked.

Are you an American? If so I apologize, if not stay in Canada.

How does one go about joining this militant organization of Canadian World Dominatrixes?

And I mean "join them"?

Hey one rate, stay away from aerial messages in DAB. He is a rip off artist and a ______________<=add explicative here. It would give me great pleasure to see his head on a pike for how he conns people.

Canadian job opportunities

I'm not quite sure how to take that. I heard that Canadian pilots with Canadian certificates have opportunities to get hired at the commuters, e.g. Jazz, earlier than their counterparts here. That's why I made my statement.

Several years ago I checked into possibilities with Canadian commuters, i.e. Air BC. Maybe Air Ontario as well. During my radio career I investigated working for radio stations up there. I recall that in both instances I was told that Canadian citizens are taken before other nationals.

Some of these banner-towing schemes are hazardous. You have to pay for your training. Then, there's no guarantee of work. Just be careful.

Once more, good luck with your efforts.

Sorry about that, it wasn't meant for you.

As for working for Jazz or Air BC, they ask a minimum of 5000hrs and a type rating, way out of my league. Although I hadn't heard about the 'preference' for Canadians, I'm betting it's more a legal / licensing issue than a 'Canada is for Canadians' one.

Anway, I'm still starting out hence the question on this board. Thanks for the genuine reply and the warning about towing companies.

I second the reply about Tim Pacini at Aerial Messages... numerous horror stories there (both witnessed and heard). Do yourself a favor and stay away, your check book will thank u.
