Hi all,

There seems to be a big pool of knowledge here to draw on so....

I'm trying to get into corporate flying and I'm curious the best way to do this. Also, any leads in Detroit or KC? We have to move somewhere, these are my first 2 choices. I'll start anywhere, and I want to find something permanent.

No help here. . . but. . .

If you hear of any openings to fly the Red Wings around in their DC-9. . . that's the job I want. Cool plane, great Hockey. . . Priceless.

Try some of the other areas too. There used to be a little corporate aviation around GRR, YIP, Willow Run, Flint and some of those. You may want to try calling some of the FBO's. I know it's a longshot but it's the best help I can offer. Good luck!

In DTW, there's usually a few openings every year in the different automotive corporate departments (Ford, Chrysler, etc). Also, there's some stuff in YIP, but I've yet to figure out how to get the inside track on any of the good ones (would love to fly one of those Citation X's or G-V's I see running around Metro).

It's all in who you know, and in the airline biz it's d*mn near impossible to get to know any of the corporate guys - you almost HAVE to be in the charter world mingling with the corporate guys to get the inside recommendations IMHO.

1. Volkswagen of North America - Falcon 2000 at Pontiac
2. Ford Corporate - Some sweet heavy metal, can't remember 'zackly, at Detroit Metro
3. General Motors - Citation X and maybe a couple-a Sabbs at Detroit Metro
4. Pentastar Aviation (used to be Chrysler) check "Google" for their website, a few Gulfstreams, Lear 60, Hawker at Pontiac.
5. FSI has a Fokker at Pontiac.
6. Dunno about the Red Wings DC9, saw it once at Metro- has a huge Red Wings logo and looks, well, like a DC9.

Plenty of doors to knock on, especially at Pontiac. There are a ton of privately owned jets tucked in to Million Air, etc. Looks like you have airline experience, which in trying to crack the Corporate Code can be to your detriment. I agree with the other posts, so much of it seems to be the right place, right time, right contact.

At Pontiac, the DC9-50 there is operated by both the Red Wing's and the Tiger's (same team owner), at Metro, the Piston's operate their own DC9-30. The crews for both DC9's come from the same source, the Piston's.

Also, GM operates several GV's, along with their 5 CE750's, one CE650 and two Saab 2000's. I don't know their hiring status.

Pentastar operates a whole list of airplanes........most of the Gulfstream models, plus a couple Falcon 2000's, plus other types.

ADI operates a Fokker F28 at Pontiac, may be some growth there.

Also at Pontiac, Corporate Flight has an operation flying several different types of aircraft.

Forget about Ford

Ford just let go of two pilots, the junior ones on the list, they were eliminated fired as part of a corp downsizing, they have no recall rights. I heard they are alos downsizing their fleet and out sourcing some of their people movements. One of the guys let go used to work for us as a DC-9 Capt, when he left us he thought it was a career move, never can tell in this business.
