Aviation adventures is an option at HEF for you. They have many different planes so you are not always in a 72.... Also, I flew traffic in the area and that was pretty fun!! Especially if you just want to do it part time..... THe hours can be a bit odd, but you'll do some flying in areas that 99% of the country can't get into... at least not without being escorted ;)

I too worked at Dulles Aviation in Manassas (summer/fall 2000). It's a busy school (I think I averaged about 120+ hrs a month during the summer). Tom is a tough boss, but they take care of their employees.

I would recommend against AVED in leesburg... I got burned by them after they offered me a job in April (To start in may) and then filled it without telling me before I moved across the country to start (resulting in me being not happy). In addition, I was much more impressed with DAIs fleet than AvEds (at least when I rented planes back around 1998).

As for Chantilly Air, I don't know what the deal there is... I know several people there (pilots that were former coworkers of mine) that are pretty happy flying for them. There are certainly a few things they wish were different (like the CP not taking all of the good trips), but overall I've heard nothing bad about the company.

Dont worry about that stuff. He has no reasons why Chantilly sucks. Just that someone told him that. Alot of really good guys working there, and almost no turnover. Ask someone who actully works there, and not someone who has never seen the building that they are based in.

21,

I think you're right...I'll check them out. I'll be up in the DC area end of March.

Yeah, check it out for yourself. If you don't like it, do go there. Pretty simple! Good luck!

Chantilly Air is advertising again for pilots, but they never respond to applications. what gives with their hiring practices?

AV-ED = too many chief's not enough indians. Thats the best way i can put it. I used to work there and I can honestly say the management sucks, but the flight instuctors and others you will work with are top notch. I left there to work at a flight school directly on the field at BWI. Highest paying cfi job and easiest gig in town, tons of students since they have a contract with the navy academy.
