Hello,

I am thinking about going to an aviation job fair in ATL. Have any of you ever gone to these job fairs before? If so, can you please give me some advice? Should I show up early, expect long lines, etc.? Should I anticipate spot interviews? Do these job fairs really generate quick interviews within a week or month?
Also, what is dress like there? I was thinking of going in casual business dress like dress shirt and slacks and saving my business suit for an actual interview down the line.

Look forward to your responses.

Dreamguy,

I will take a stab at the question of dress. I would wear a suit and tie. This is the first (and the lasting one) impression you make on a potential employer; make it a great one!

I conduct seminars at job fairs every three months. Most of the people show up like they are coming to the Home and Garden show. If I had a dime for every comment the employers say after the job fair about the mode of dress people choose, I would be a millionaire!

Keep in mind that these employers usually show up because they have positions they need to fill; either now or in the future. It also gives you some face-to-face time with them. You are no longer a number.

Treat it as you would any other formal interview. Expect long lines, do your research prior to the job fair, have a well-developed 30 second commercial about yourself and make a good impression with your knowledge.

Do a search

Do a search under Air Inc you will get the good, the bad and the ulgy. I am a big supporter of Air Inc and wish they had them running back in 1977 when I left the Navy. You will pick up a lot of infromation, and they are in my view a good thing to do once. At my last show we hired everyone who came by our booth and interviewed, trouble is only one guy came by and then came to the interview. Come by and see me I will be at the USA Jet booth.
