Pop quiz,

I have a friend who has just started indoc at Trans States. He has been assigned to the Jetstream 41, does any pilot presently flying or has flown this aircraft type have an opinion on it-good ship or a bucket of bolts?

Thanks.

I loved flying the 41, except in summer when you had to deal with the horrible A/C. Otherwise it was pretty reliable and fune to fly.

It is a pretty good airplane overall. It's fun to fly and usually does a good job. Summers in it are terrible though.

The 41 is great fun to fly - its fast and not too complicated to learn. Pitch is very sensitive but roll is like a truck. As mentioned before be ready too really cook in the summer and to freeze in the winter (at least until you get one spinning). I think that TSA runs their engines hotter than we do so they might be even faster than us. I know they have a flap mod which allows them to do 0° flap takeoffs - helpful with W&B.

If he doesn't have some noise cancelling headsets tell your friend to go get some or be ready to wear earplugs under the headsets - I cannot overemphasize how noisy this thing is. Doesn't mean its not fun though. Definitely not the best climbing turboprop out there but there aren't too many that can keep up with us in cruise short of a dash 8-400 or a Dornier 328.

Not too many recurring problems (other than maybe some quirks in the enivornmental controls and a worthless secondary AC system) - Garrett engines seem to be reasonably reliable just as long as you remember to turn on the anti icing systems when in the clouds. I have had several problems with the landing gear but in talking to other 41 pilots that appears to be juts my bad luck. Most people I fly with enjoy it - I am sure your friend will too.

I loved that thing!!! Finest turboprop out there in my opinion. (I know the DO328 prop guys are going to debate on this---but I don't know anything about the Do)
Like the other guy said, it was fun to fly. Handles ice really well, and really scoots. It's nice to have a plane that you need to reduce power to keep it from overspeeding. The only thing to watch out for is approach, if you are straight in, be at 200 by 10 miles out or you'll find yourself having to put on cowl heat to rob you of power so you can slow down. This is especially true if you flew something that slowed easy before.
Great plane, he'll love it.

great aircraft, but hard to slow down. harder i would say than the crj, your friend will have a blast.
