I hope they don't call it "Baby Blue." I also wish that the dreaded 20K lbs. requirement goes away!!!

TurboS7 and engima, you do bring up a legitimate point in that how serious of a competitor JB is going to be?

I think the entertainment concept JB has is a "winner". Back in the olden days people got fed to help pass the time. I speculate it is more fun to be entertained and it is also cheaper in the long run than being fed. When I ride in the back I just as soon get a window seat, eat something, and enjoy the view. Most people probably find flying to be boring and would rather be entertained. To a certain degree JB may be more "hip" than SWA, et.al. Time will tell (as it always does) if this concept is successful and here to stay.

Michael Boyd called it, yet again.

There are also some vibrations out there that at least one other US carrier is close to making the jump into the larger Embraer product

It's also nice to see a carrier making rational decisions instead of drinking the fleet commonality koolaid. Training costs are quite low in an all 747 fleet, but it's just kinda difficult to serve BTV with three frequencies per day.

keep this in mind. JB is not making a seperate regional action here. they are making this just another addition to their fleet.

Remember, the mainline organizations used to and some still do fly the Fokker 100 and aircraft similar...remember the size of the origional unstreched DC-9?....they only had like 70-110 seats anyway (a little fuzzy on it). and they were mainline.

This E190 is a mainline plane. and it will pay mainline rates according to the seats that it has. its just a smaller one. Looks like a mini-me 737/A3something.

Hi!

I wonder if JB will pay the -190 pilots the same as there other pilots as UPS does.

At UPS, you're paid based on longevity of service, not on what aircraft you fly.

At my airline, next year, we are supposed to go to equal pay for both types of our aircraft up through year 6, when a capt on the smaller jet will max out, but the larger jet capt will keep increasing. FOs will be paid the same on both airframes.

Hey everyone...this is only my second post, so first of all...hello! (my first one is hidden deep within the dank archives)

Second of all, I read in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram a quote from Neeleman saying that the E190 pilots will in fact be on a different pay scale (obviously a lower one) than the Airbus pilots. Hope this helps.

Nice move, jetBlue!:)

I still don't understand why JB wouldn't institute seat pay. Unless they lock people in the -190's there will be multiple training events when newhires inevitibly chase higher pay. That's one of the advantages that SWA has is only two training events per pilot for their whole career(excluding recurrent, of course).

Plus, if you lock people in a lower paying seat and hire new people into the 320, you aren't doing much to keep people happy. The enthusiasm level is bound to drop for those locked in.TC
