Just had a buddy of mine down there tell me he makes a salary of $68,000.
But he said it's a really demanding job. You're supposed to get 10 days off a month. But these guys are working hard. The work schedule is all day, every day. Calls at all hours of the day to change your schedule. Many double sims with no extra pay either.
He's one of the originals down there. Just a great group of pilots doing the instructing.
Training will move to MCO in 2005 once our new training facility is built.
Since you sent me a pm, I've already replied to that.
Big picture, it's tough to remember the basics when you can't highlight and make notes in a paper manual. So retention for me is much more challenging. Of course, I'm not Yeager either.
It's very cool to have the maintenance manual, dispatcher manual, flight attendant manual, etc readily available. You can really learn stuff with respect to other's jobs, role restrictions, etc.
Oh yeah, then you forget what you learned because it's electronic. The cycle never ends.
I just read this thread with interest. Two days ago I flew with a first officer on his last day before getting furloughed at United. He was a A-320 instructor for many years at United, and an airforce instructor for 15 years before that. He says that's all he really wants to do is instruct, but thought that phase of his life was over. As of today, he is unemployed. He has a great attitude and is a hardworker. I told him to look up the JetBlue website and apply as an instructor there, and would not be a pilot but instructor only. He liked that idea as he has kids and wants to be home every night. I also told him he would have to move to Miami/Orlando, and he is game for that.
What else can I do for him to assist him in a JetBlue instructor opportunity?
